Fun College Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 22, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Decent Baskets
-Signage OK (DGA Peel 'n Stick) (See note on 7-9 below)
-Nice diversity of shots, couple blind, one tunnel
-Nicely kept grounds

Cons:

-Natural tees
-Blind shot on #3 near sidewalk, #4 plays along a sidewalk
-No benches / trashcans

Other Thoughts:

NICC - Calmar DGC plays on the campus of Northeast Iowa Community College on the south end of Calmar, IA. A nicely diverse course, there are open shots, one tunnel and 2 blind shots. #2 gets some length with 432', #3 shoots blind over a wall and then down. #4 plays blind along the curve of trees to the left, #7 is a tight tunnel shot. It appears that #7, 8 and 9 have all moved slightly from earlier maps and even their current tee signs. I have edited those 3 signs to be more correct, added them to the Media tab, and created an updated map (See Course Map). Added trees on #5 are just another obstacle to play, but are spaced far enough apart to work around pretty easily. Not a championship level course, but some good variety to work on several different shots. Adding concrete tees and fixing those 3 signs would add half a point. I really enjoyed my round here and will probably play again.

Needs Some Improvement 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This was a great course five years ago.

Signage on each hole with distance labeled.

Variety of shots needed on your drives.

All are easy to par and a challenge to birdie.

Never busy with players so you can get a quiet round in.

Cons:

The campus has changed some landscaping over the last few years. The designers clearly didn't care about the course when they did these designs. A few of the baskets and tee offs are in locations that are nearly impossible to manage. One hole we had to tee off with a tree three feet in front of us that was just planted. Another hole had the basket right in the middle of four thick trees.

Other Thoughts:

They did not care about the course with their landscaping updates. It was great five years ago but now I dont' have the same ambition to go back.

NICC Calmar 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 22, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very simple layout, easy to follow hole to hole. Holes 1-3 are the easiest on the course, and the next 6 are easy to get par but a challenge to birdie (as most courses are). It is a very flat and open course, very nice for recreational play. I wish more people knew about it, there were never any other people there while I have been there!

Cons:

I wish there were actual tee pads, my friends and I just end up teeing off from the hole signs.
