Pros:
- This sits on an old golf course, so you feel fairly secluded on plenty of rolling hills, some water, while also venturing into the woods for a handful of holes as well. It's a good mix of shots that test distance and accuracy.
- There are a few holes that really stand out. Hole 7 is outstanding. An candy-cane shaped uphill blind shot where the pin is nestled in a corner of prairie - really enjoy this one. And 12 will be special once they clean out the woods as a par 4 that starts in the open, then doglegs left. There are some outstanding views, and basket placements, including hole 4 where it's perched on a ledge behind this massive lone tree.
- They're starting to grow the grass out a bit for the rough, which elevates a good-looking course into a great-looking one.
- There's a working golf course on an adjacent property (you park in the same parking lot), so there are restrooms and food available nearby. The course itself can be seen on hole 1 and 2, but they're pretty far apart so that one sport won't interfere with the other.
Cons:
- This is still a work in progress. Tees are still dirt/grass, and no tee signs yet either. Some of the woods holes need some clean up, too. While I would say 95 percent of the lines have been carved out, there was still quite a bit of debris on the ground.
- It's just a handful of holes, but with it being on a golf course, there are a few holes where it's, 1) Bomb a drive with little accuracy needed, and then 2) land a 150-250 foot open upshot. They're doing what they can with limited trees, but I would love to see a few more planted to tighten up the lines a bit.
Other Thoughts:
- Your mileage may vary on this, but we're seeing more and more of these courses where it's upping the challenge from your run-of-the-mill park course. But the time commitment is also increasing where playing a round is going to take up a couple hours of your afternoon. I will say, I'm grateful that the front nine circles back to the parking lot before going to hole 10.
- I haven't tried it yet, but apparently you can rent a cart for $10. However, there is like 15 percent of this course where I'm not sure how you would get through the woods that way.
- This is a course that could certainly go up in rating once some infrastructure is added (tees, signs) as well as some amenities.
