Quick Trip Review 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 22, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

My review will honestly not be as detailed as Fissiksman 's below.
I was skeptical of the crushed rock tees when I first saw them, but they are well done and maintained.
There is a decent variety of shots for RHBH and LHBH.
Park is well groomed mostly.
Most of the course seems to be out of the way of the public.

Cons:

Some holes to go across or near public places like playgrounds or the walking path.
It did seem like most of the holes were straight. If there was something to worry about it is the dense brush on the sides. This can limit some creativity on playing a hole as you have a major fear of losing a disc.
The long bomb holes (13, 14, 15) play over what appears to be a retention pond. It was REALLY muddy, and nearly impossible to cross into the middle.
I played in the evening as the sun was setting and for some reason it seemed like at least half the holes were playing straight into the sun. I don't get how that is possible!
The 18th hole is still a little rough. I ended up stepping on some branch with thorns in it and puncturing through my shoe an into my foot. That ended the day for me (and the week really)

Other Thoughts:

I only played the course once through, quickly. Due to my foot I was not able to play a second. I was only in town on business for the day and glad to see that there was a course, so I tossed a few discs in my bag. I really only played the course with one drive one mid and one putter. It doesn't need a lot of variety. Since there is nothing else around for miles (hundreds) I would really recommend checking it out if you are in the area. It is worth the 70-90 mins it takes to run through.

Only game in town 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 26, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Crushed rock tee boxes on every hole. Easy to follow flow except for one spot. Quite a bit of variety in hole types. Good baskets. Only disc golf within 150+ miles... Variety of shot shapes and types needed. Pretty area, quite a bit of wildlife. Bathroom and water available.

Cons:

Heavily used park in a community that has no clue what disc golf is. Some holes unplayable on certain days due to other activities. One hole in particular (#3) used by every photographer in town, so you have to argue to play hole. Some holes similar to others. Millions of thorns, hole numbers posted, but not par/distance info.

Other Thoughts:

As the ONLY course in the region, I am incredibly thankful to HAVE a course to play on. The course was recently reworked slightly, making it a better course, and not so schizophrenic.
Many are tight holes that punish anything but arrow straight shooting, and being South Texas, anything in the rough is in the thorns! I enjoy this course a lot, and it offers something for every thrower.

Wind is almost always going at least 15 mph here...

Hole analysis:
1 takes off from the bathrooms and goes downhill, is short, but has a tree to make you plan the shot. If events are playing, there are 15 trucks parked on the hole.
2 has a tree that forces a right to left break. Go far left and hit the kids play area, far right and you're in thick stuff.
3 about 200' from the tee there are a line of trees. Pick the right gap and you can do well, go right and there is thick trouble. Go left and long and water comes into play.
4. Ace run with a bit of water short right and trees left.
5. First disc eating hole. There is a 12' gap about 80' in that you need to hit. Path makes a sharp right, left jog. Land on the path and you have a good shot at birdie. Veer right or left and you are in waist high grass if you are lucky, in thick brambles if not. Good recovery shots are needed to make par.
6. A creek with high reeds guarding the entire left edge and long just past basket, open on the right. Great hole.
7. Trouble left initially, and trouble right towards the end, as well as trouble behind goal. Long for a 3. Good challenge.
8. Second disc eating hole. Dead straight, downhill at first. Go right and you are in tall, thick mesquite trees. Left is tall grass; reeds and water near goal. Dump a putter down the hill and make a good second shot, or play recovery...
9. Next ace run. Open first half, narrows with goal hugging the right edge of thick brush.
Overall, front 9 is short, easy.
10. Narrow beginning: right to left and with overhang, opens up a tiny bit to a goal halfway up a little hill. Cool shot if you hit it, more trouble right than left.
11. Narrow, straight. 10' wide, slightly uphill, thorns on either side, but discs can be found pretty easily if you spot well. A great tee shot or great recovery shot and you're in line for a birdie.
12. You have to make a sharp left after the last basket to find this hole. Tee box heavily brushy left, line of small trees on right, open area beyond trees on right, with creek in between. Hole halfway up a small hill by a creek. Light poles in play as well. Short 4 due to the distractions. A good drive and it's a birdie hole.
13. A short wide-open 4. If the wind is low, it's an easy bird, if the wind roars, watch out!
14. Longest hole, usually playing windy. Elevated tee over creek to open area towards marshy area, finishing on a hilly basket guarded by swirling wind.
15. Plays dead into a strong wind most days. Houses on left, open to the right. Creek and trees dead ahead. Hole on hill, missed putts love to roll to the creek.
16. Shorter carbon copy of #11, but much easier to birdie. Large tree overhanging basket. Don't overthrow.
17. Really narrow hole! Thick brush on both sides. Opens to the right in the middle, but plays straight. Brush behind hole. Par is solid, even though it is short.
18. Fun finishing hole. Elevated tee. About 250' down, it doglegs left for another 50'. Place your shot well and have a great shot at birdie, miss by a bit and it's a scramble for par. About 15' wide, grass and thorns up about 10' high on both sides. On the plus side, it's a great hole to find new discs... We had a major fire that took out the majority of the obstacles on this hole. Although the grass is growing back quickly to over waist high, it no longer has the difficulty it once did. The basket is still well-guarded on several angles, we have downgraded it to a par 3.

Call me if you're from out of town and I'll show you the tips.
