Pros:
There are nine nice baskets on school grounds; the kids can chuck some plastic during P.E.
Cons:
There is no course design here. There are no tees, so signs, no flow. Just nice baskets clumped together that you can chuck at. You can make up some 250'-300' shots, there are a few trees you can try to get in your way, and there you go...safari practice area.
The apparent design idea is that you would circle around the clump of baskets and tee from the perimeter of the property to one of the nine baskets, which in practice makes all the routes criss-cross. The design could never be implemented with tees and signs because it would be wildly dangerous.
Other Thoughts:
I don't hate what they are doing here, but this site rates disc golf courses and this isn't a disc golf course. It's a practice area so I have to rate it a "0" as a course.
In theory, it's not a terrible idea to have baskets with no design on school grounds. You can make up P.E. activities with them and maybe get some kids interested in disc golf. The problem Salem has is that there is no proper course in town for the kids to go to if they catch the disc golf bug; they are 25 miles to Rolla for the closest actual disc golf course. For this idea to pay off, there needs to be a closer actual course with tee signs and a safe flow for those kids to play.
Salem isn't that far off I-44 and just by going off the map, there appears to be two disc golf courses there. It might be tempting for a road warrior to get off the Interstate to bag a couple of courses. In reality, there are no disc golf courses in Salem. Just tee-less baskets sitting around. I live 1/2 hour away and feel cheated that I wasted the trip.
