Another solid 9er in NE

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Nice sign at the beginning of the course and at each tee. Navigation is pretty straightforward.
+Practice basket near the course map. It has a "1" on it so I was briefly confused. It is indeed a practice basket. Hole 1 is south of the map.
+Nice tees. Some of the longer ones that i've seen. Concrete, plenty grippy and in good shape.
+Lots of big, mature trees here. Like really big. Mostly maples, cottonwoods, Oaks.
+Park is well maintained and huge. This is the crown jewel of Oakland and is really impressive for a smaller town. Camping, shelters, beautiful gardens, ballfields, track, two playgrounds, etc. Also borders the county fairgrounds and golf course.
+Good length for a city park 9. Good variety of length. One hole under 200 and one nearly 600. Most were upper 200s through 300s.
+A stream that could come into play on a few holes and is thrown over on one. It was bone dry right now but probably flows in the spring and early summer.
+Trees provide enough obstacle for force some lines but are relatively forgiving. Good variety of right/left/straight. Most are similar enough in that they play under the canopy of large trees. The ones near the stream are a little more open.
+2 pin locations on most of the holes. I don't think it changes the holes too much but still nice to have.
+Good for kids/beginners to learn the game.

Cons:

-The main con here would be the other park activities. This course is pretty big and plays near some of the other activities. None of the holes are obviously unsafe but if a gathering spills beyond a shelter or something like that, it could be a hazard. The long hole (6?) plays over one of the park roads so be cautious there.
-Really flat. Next to no elevation change.
-The holes all seemed to blend together. The designers did well with what they had to work with but nothing really stands out as a signature hole.

Other Thoughts:

+Course would probably be a bit better off with water in the creek. A missed opportunity for some variety. Can't fault mother nature on that one.
+A solid design in a really nice small town city park. Will be back if I'm in the area again.
+A good pair with the course just 7 miles north. Having two courses in the same area is more appealing to drive to than 1.
+Fun factor was ok. Nothing frustrating but nothing super entertaining either.

Nice cozy park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 26, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great variety of shots, obstacles, and distances.

Cons:

Keep your discs flying low. If you're up high, the discs seem to like to get caught up in those tall trees pretty easy sometimes. Also be careful on the chain bridge between 5 & 6. It's fun, but shifty and you can lose your balance easy if you're not paying attention. Lol

Nice little course that surprised 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 8, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice long tee boxes
Clear signs
Nice baskets
Variety of holes with ceiling, obstacles, water, required shots
Big, old trees
Variation in hole length from sub-200 (tight dogleg right through trees), to 590 under tree canopy.

Cons:

In a multi-use park that could have some concerns if there are others using it.

Other Thoughts:

Pleasantly surprised with this one. Although it was only 9 holes, I enjoyed it quite a bit.
