NEATURE WALK! drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 14, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Plenty of parking available.
- Tee pads, tee signs, and baskets all in good shape.
- Fairly simple to follow layout.
- Lots of elevation in play.
- Not too busy of a course.

Cons:

- There isn't a whole lot of variety.
- Some walks between holes can get awkwardly long.

Other Thoughts:

Honestly a pretty solid course. I went to school at Platteville and wish I could have gotten to this course a few more times. Love the elevation as you will see in most SW Wisconsin Courses. Pretty solid course for a drive by.

Pros:

+ The most memorable part of this course is the elevation changes within it. While there wasn't a downhill 400+ ft bomb, there were 2-3 downhill touch shots that were fun little ace runs. There also weren't challenging uphill shots. Rather, there were a several (maybe like 5 or 6) that played over a valley with the holes ranging from 220 to 350 feet. In any case, they added to the variety and it was pretty fun.

+ Course equipment was solid. Good baskets, tee signs with distances, and tees were stone, though a little short.

+ Course flow was intuitive for the most part, though a couple walks were a bit long.

+ All in all a pretty fun design. Not too easy, but certainly nothing mega challenging. An advanced level player could reasonably expect to have a chance at 2ing any hole here.

+ It's free to play and quite empty. I can't imagine there ever being crowds here. It was well kept and there wasn't too much trash.

+ Of the courses in the area (Richland, Boscobel, Dodgeville), this one was my favorite.

Cons:

- I would imagine the the rough gets pretty gross in the summer (I played in November and didn't have issues). Similarly, with the sitting water in areas, I'd imagine bugs like mosquitoes and gnats would be annoying.

- This course could benefit from another set of tees to add to the challenge for more advanced players.

- Every hole can be reached with a RHBH hyzer... not too much variety in forcing a certain shot type.

- A couple of the walks between holes certainly need to be shortened. 15 to 16 sticks out as an especially long one.

Other Thoughts:

All things considered, this was a fun round. I'd recommend it to those in the area. It'd be good to have a spotter as I can certainly imagine the weeds eating discs on errant shots, especially on windy days.

Fun course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 15, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Fun holes with a lot of variety and good use of elevation.

Good for both the serious player and the newbie.

Good signage.

Cons:

Long walk between a couple of holes because last two permanent holes are not in, and temporary holes are still being used.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 22, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Many elevation changes
-Opportunity to use different shots/techniques
-Not many people here ever, no lines
-Nice map & tee markers

Cons:

-The layout is very random (had to walk far distances between a few pins/tee boxes, walk from 15 to 16 was over 1/8 mi)
-Fairways are rough and mowed quite shaggy
-Course is built around a dump/fill area, not very pretty or well manicured
-Wild parsnip everywhere!

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice community 18 hole course. At the time of this review the course was rated a 3.8, but it is a 3 at best. It is no where near the quality as any of the pay to play Madison courses. With a little more upkeep (more frequent mowing, etc) and funding, it would be a great course; it just seemed a touch cobbled together and built on a budget. I would suggest a donation box or small fee (e.g. - $2/play) to fund some improvements.

Disconsin Review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 28, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Challenges present opportunities for disc golfers to use different shot techniques throughout the course, and baskets 1, 2 and 3 could have discer using a different driver technique for each shot. Mixture of open, slightly wooded, and wooded shots along with the valley offer great scenery and throwing challenges. Well mapped and great signage.

Cons:

Could offer amateur and pro shots, or alternate basket locations. Prairie grass made finding some discs that happened to land there difficult to locate.

Pros:

- Elevation
- Easy to navigate
- Paved tee's
- Signs
- Nice Variety of shots
- Running water and bathrooms during season
- Clean, beautyful, well maintained park

Cons:

- Lacks more tight/technical shots
- gnats can be an issue in this area of the state depending on the time of year
- Not many garbage cans
- Single tee/pin locations

Other Thoughts:

Nice new course in a community where disc golf is not too popular. I prefer this course to any other in this corner of the state. The course uses the land well and is enjoyable to play. I would love to see multiple pad's/pin locations to add more variety and challenge to some of the holes. There is more land available and an expansion through some of the woods would make this course top notch and well worth a trip to the area.
