Small Town Park Course

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 8, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Baskets OK
-Signage OK
-OK map at start
-Not far off I-29

Cons:

-Grass Tees
-In 2 sections, across street for 3-9
-#3 Tee Sign missing
-#3, #7, #8, #9 unplayable during soccer practice/games
-Flat...no kidding...flat

Other Thoughts:

Gaukel Park hosts a reasonable DGC in the northern part of Onawa, IA. Play starts near the community center with holes #1 and #2, the rest play across the street mostly in the soccer fields (which make it unplayable when in use for soccer). Fairly typical for a park course with a few trees to work around, the ground here is just super flat. No elevation to speak of. Really, an OK course for a small town. Not a bad course, not a course to challenge most of us. As previous review said, a bagger's pleasure. Play, if you're in the area and want to hit chains, otherwise, you won't miss passing by.

Course Bagger's Pleasure 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Nice Baskets
+Nice well maintained park
+Won't lose a disc here
+Can take all the time in the world to practice different lines since it's probably never busy
+Flow is solid and easy to follow.
+Ace runs
+Signage is good enough.

Cons:

-Grass tees
-Too open, not enough obstacles to force any lines
-Very, very flat
-Can interfere with other park activities
-Would get repetitive quickly to have to play this course often.

Other Thoughts:

+Stop if you're a course bagger, don't if you're not. That's all there really is to say about this small town course in NW Iowa.

Small town course is better than nothing. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 8, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Handful of nice holes that shape shots a bit.
Fairly clear signs
Nice baskets

Cons:

Grass tees
Couple of holes fairly boring straight shots. These holes also traverse across a soccer field that would be unplayable if a soccer game was going one.

Other Thoughts:

It's a course count booster. If you lived in town, it would be good practice. Other than that, it's kind of meh.
