Parque di Invierno Is Spain’s First Permanent Disc Golf Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Spain's first course is set in the center of the large, sprawling Parque di Invierno in the city of Oviedo. This large, hilly park is popular with all Oviedions, whether walking, biking, strolling, working out, skate boarding or playing fetch with their dogs.

Once you find hole one, navigation with the course map is a breeze. Finding hole 1 was somewhat challenging for my wife and I. There are two nice sized, colored course maps and signs, one at the cafeteria where the course finishes and one at the start. They are the same course signs as the tiny La Morgal 3 hole course. We were not able to find the hole 1 parking area so had to hoof it through the park to the cafeteria and then backtrack the course to find hole 1. By the time I reached the hole 1 tee pad, I had covered more ground than Marco Polo.

The course has decent sized concrete pads with a small tee sign sitting near the front of the pad. The small signs list the hole number, distance in meters par and elevation loss or gain. The baskets are the same yellow Latitude 64 models as La Morgal.

The course is short, mostly hilly, fairly technical with lots of trees and a few Mandos to navigate. It's a recreational course with only # 3 playing much over 300' and it's downhill. A big arm is not needed here, big lungs maybe!

# 1 and 2 both play uphill, tight and technical. Then # 3 needs an accurate slightly downhill tee shot. I liked # 4 which requires just a slight anhyser shot. # 5 is just slightly downhill needing a low tunnel throw. I think it was the prettiest hole on the course. # 6 is just under 200' and requires another tunnel tee shot. # 7 is probably a 185' easy downhill throw needing you to bend your tee off around some branches. Then you finish with 8 & 9 which are both similar 200' throws across the sloping hillside.

# 9 finishes at the little cafeteria located in the center of this lovely park. This is the ideal place to enjoy a cool refreshment after your round here.

Cons:

It was difficult for us to locate the hole # 1 parking lot. Might be simpler if you speak Spanish or maybe if you're smarter than me.

The course definitely finishes in the middle of the park requiring a trek back to your car.

I would love to see the hole numbers on the baskets. That would have saved me lots of needless walking about.

Rec course so a big arm isn't needed. Rec challenge but Hey, you're playing disc golf in Spain and that's pretty cool in itself.

Other Thoughts:

Back is the Ussssa, you don't know how lucky you are! Sorry, I got a little carried away but I was meaning to say was back in the USA this would be an average 2.5 rated course but when you factor in the Christopher Columbus, El Cid and Queen Isabella points, you can round if off to an even 3.0. Muy Bueno!
