Nice new niner!! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 25, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Really fun city park style niner in this rural community south of Effingham....

Two sets of tees, orange and blue, which other than #5 were not significantly different in length from each other. They did, however, provide very different site lines and approaches to the basket.

Great use of elevation and mature trees throughout the course.

A few memorable holes:
#2 Low ceiling of trees protecting a basket which is up a hill beyond the trees!!
#4 & 5 the two longest holes on the course, all 4 tees over 300 feet, on holes that threw one way across a valley (#4) then back thru the same valley (#5)
#6 a teasingly short hole (211-orange or 172-blue) with a triad of mature trees providing basket protection.

All in all, a fun round navigating the elevation and trees.

Cons:

While the tees are easily found, marked with a foot high 4x4 in either blue or orange, there was no other signage any where in the park. I was told by a local that it is a fairly new course. Hopefully signage is next stage of development.

Several throws force you to throw over the park street.

Definitely maximized the available space, couple of tees too close to previous basket, and one instance I had to figure out which basket to throw at (#5). The on-line map definitely helped!!

Other Thoughts:

Once again I am the first reviewer of a course.... think it has been 4 or 5 times now!!

As I make the trek toward 200 courses (this was #185), I have been doing road trips from my home in St Louis. This was a 5 course Eastern Illinois into Indiana trip, with this one number 4 on the day.

With these trips, I hit courses not knowing how some will actually turnout. This one was a pleasant surprise. Played both tees and really enjoyed the course.

The rating: solid 3 for the fun factor, but have to deduct a half point for the no signage anywhere giving it the decent rating. Signs and concrete pads could get this up to a 3.5 in my book.

Last note: not worth travelling a distance for just this one, but it would be part of a good Effingham DGC, Teutopolis DGC and Peterson Park DGC trifecta.
