I have been playing disc for 30 years now and I must say that this is one of the most unique courses I have played over that time. In fact, Paulie has done what I have been wanting to do for years - finding a nice piece of property and putting together a quality course. He has truely maximized his real estate and created a quality result. It is not long, but I like that as it does not create the distinct advantage for the long thrower.

Not many. The drive from Boulder is a solid hour. The footing can be a bit tenuous, but it is really part of it's character.

You can not get a better host than Paulie!

Paul has really put his heart into the course and you can tell when you play it! The Course is amazing. There was 30 holes when we played of those 30 you do reuse some baskets, but even so there is not one hole that is the same as another. Perhaps my favorite thing with the course is that we had a guide to show us where and how to throw. That was invaluable to us as the course difficult. Another plus for the course is that the course yours for the day you can take as much time as you want. You don't even have to worry about someone having to play through your large group. This course has a great variety of challenges from the trees everywhere to the sloping mountain. There is even a good variety of pins/baskets throughout the course. One of my favorite holes has some chimes hanging from a bent tree. The fun is it could be an easy one or a challenging three. When we played the pads were very level and relatively large. On our second round Paul turned on some music at the house that we could hear at almost every hole and that is something that no other course I know of can say. This course is a true mountain course and is the epitome of Colorado disc golf.

I don't really have a con the only thing would be the course does take some time to play so if you were hoping to get a quick round in this is not the place to come.

Paul is a great guy and so was our guide. Call Paul before you plan on heading up to the course and it is yours for the day. He allowed us to bring food to bbq and then play the course again. The thing to remember is a course like this takes time to build so you need to respect it. Bring a cooler with water and other items and leave it at the car. You will come by the house four times while playing the course for a chance to refill and refresh. One thing to remember is that the course is in the mountains you will want to wear some good shoes for hiking because the entire course is on decomposed granite. The course is very secluded and peaceful and a great place to go and have a quiet relaxing day.

Paul is the man. The course is difficult but not frustrating. Paul played a round with us and gave us pro-tips from the designer. You really can't beat the experience out here all by yourself with an experienced caddy.

The tee pads need to be leveled out some but as Paul said that will be happening very shortly.

Bring a cooler the course is designed to bring you past the house at several intervals to restock your bags with beer or water or whatever you might need!

Best course I've played so far. Great lay out. Can't tell that your shooting for a pin you already played. Going up and down the hill all day is a great work out.

Not many. New course players need a guide to get around but after that easy to fallow.

Played the course in the morning paulie let us bbq next to his place. Then played the course again. Talk about a exhausting day. But well worth it. Highly recomend playing this course.

Phantom Falls was the first round of golf I ever played in the great state of Colorado. I was going to visit my friends in Pine and play massive amounts of golf of course. On the flight to Denver, I was reading an article in my Disc Golfer about these hand carved baskets at this course in Pine. I said, "Hey, I'm going to Pine." A few hours later I showed the article to my friend and he said, "Let's Go!" Boy, did Kurt & Paul show this Flat-lander a great mountain course. What a great time!! Like Grandma says, "If you don't have a good time, it's your own fault." A must play course if you are in the area. After 30 holes of mountain golf, a Zoka's Burger & an IPA are a must.

This was a fantastically challenging course. Designed and built beautifully with absolutely no luxury overlooked this course will kick your a** all day long. Paul is an extremely gracious host and was kind enough to guide us through the course all day long. As long as you call first, he will do the same for you, and trust me, with the way this course is put together you are going to need his wisdom and tips. It's more than your average 18 hole-r. Be prepared to experience some more strenuous terrain then you are used to and also an abundance of trees and slopes that can be very unforgiving. Talk to my man Paul before you head up there and be respectful of the property. This course was not easy to put together, yet you can enjoy all it has to offer if you execute it the right way. The course is beautiful and without a doubt worth serious national recognition.

Expect to invest at least an entire day of discing at this course. It is tiring (even though I was happy to have the exercise), and a pretty far drive for anyone who doesn't live in the mountains.

Paul is a good good man. Treat his property with respect and he will show you the same.

Paul has done a spectacular job with this course. Set in the mountains of Conifer, this course will challenge you all day long. Paul reserves the course for you for the full day (as long as you have at least a group of four). This allows you to fully absorb the beauty of this course without any distractions. Phantom Falls, is Paul's course designed in his backyard. This 30 hole monster will have you absolutely beaten up by the end of the day. It has a great mix of short and long holes, all very technical ready to punish any mistake. Hole #1 starts out at the front of the house, shooting to a one of a kind hand crafted aspen basket. Paul will guide you around the course showing you the best route, as well as how to get to the next hole (much needed if you have never played before). The course is designed in a way tha it comes back up to the house about four different times (great for refilling the bag with adult beverages!). I can't tell you how much fun this course is, and all the variety you get from it. You have two amazing aspen baskets, a basket made from chimes that you may be lucky enough to hear ring out, a hanging basket from a tree. Listen to Paulie....throw it straight and land it flat, otherwise you will find yourself rolling and making at least a bogie. This course instantly became one of my favorites, and will test the best players.

This course isn't closer to where I live. Driving from Colorado Springs, it is definitely a day trip. If you have a weekend to spare...play Phantom Falls and Beaver Ranch and you will have the most challenging/breathtaking weekend of disc golf ever!

Make sure you call Paul ahead of time....don't just show up. Paul is a real laid back guy and an amazing guide, so tip him well. He has put 5k of his own hard earned money into this course so give back for the experience you will have! Be respectful!! Don't swear (he has two beautiful baby girls), pick up your trash, be nice....I want to be able to come back. Also, if you want to play tunes thats cool, Paul just doesn't want to hear rap (i luckily played classic rock all day). Paul, amazing course and thank you for sharing it! (ps. pictures are coming!!)

Absolutely amazing course design. You drive up to the course and realize that this is literally in the back yard of the course designer, Paul. There is a practice tee to get warmed up on and then Paul will take you over to the first tee and give you some history of the course. He is going to have to guide you through this course as many holes you are shooting at the same basket but from a completely different starting spot (much different that simply having alternate tees). Paul is a really chill guy who loves his course and it shows with some of the fun things he's done with it. You'll also need his tips on where not to throw as well as what routes have worked for people in the past. The first tee you step on you look out onto a semi-open fairway and you see a hand crafted aspen wood basket. One of his friends has custom made 2 baskets our of aspen wood and it looks amazing and is really fun to shoot at. Among other fun things are a hanging basket to shoot at, 2 holes where you have to hit hanging chimes instead of a basket, and some madatory windows to shoot through. There are plenty of benches and chairs and other places to take a rest, which is extremely important as this course is a serious workout. It would take me way too long to describe all the holes but each one has a new challenge to it. You are shooting in very tight woods to be sure to bring your more controllable discs. Also there are countless upshots so bring your best disc for that. Since there isn't really any bushes or shrubs, it is almost impossible to completely lose your discs, and should you somehow manage to do that Paul keeps a lost and found pile so call him after a week and it will be found. If you want to tune up your accuracy and control shots, this is an absolute must play. Each hole is fitted with a painted GTP rock which marks what the best throw to date on the hole is at. Aces are marked with a small rock in the basket. It's a blast trying to beat the previous record. I loved playing this course and will definitely be coming back.

Not much in the way of cons on this course. It's definitely a workout. You will be doing a lot of up and down walking and it definitely will wear you out by the time you finish the 30 hole course. The designer throws RHFH and his course design shows it, however there are still plenty of holes for RHBH as well. There isn't a wide open hole to unleash a drive on but you will defintely have some uphill shots where you need to hurl you best driver to get anywhere near a birdie opportunity.

I would highly recommend calling up Paul for a reservation. (keep in mind you need a group of 4 and he only allows 1 group a day to play to call plenty ahead of time) Bringing shoes that can handle some serious hiking and a waterbottle are both necessities. This is an amazing experience and an absolute must play for any disc golfer. We took 2 friends who play but aren't really avid disc golfers and they had an absolute blast. We came off the 30th hole and Paul had 4 cold beers waiting for us. He directed us to an absolutely amazing restaurant called Zoka's which is only 1 mile away and a perfect place to re-fuel after walking this course. The course is located in a fantastic outdoor recreation area so if you are into outdoor sports there is no reason not to make this part of a 2 day camping, discing, mountain biking, etc excursion. Definitely give this course a try (we will be posting some photos soon)

30 holes. Let me say that again - 30 holes over rugged, rough, and drastically elevated terrain in the Colorado Rockies. Need I say more? Due yourself a favor and get your calves in shape because even the fittest person will be sucking wind by the end of your day at around 8000 feet.

This is a well kept privately owned course that features a great host and good people in the area who like to play. Since the course owner couldn't be out that show us the winding holes, he went to the trouble to make sure we had a guide in place to lead us around and give us the ins and outs of every hole and pin location.

Have I mentioned the homemade Aspen baskets that aren't given their full justice in the pictures posted here? Yes, they are that awesome, and are truly works of art. There are two of these pins on the course, with one serving as a signature start to hole one. This was known as the money hole, since people were giving to a cash pool for aces, but our guide told us someone won and it isn't really done anymore.

A few other cool notables are the tee signs and the CTP rocks. The tee signs are flagstone, and are going to be redone to give each hole a more professional look. They are currently marked with sidewalk chalk. There are also CTP (closest to pin) rocks at every hole. Some are sitting in the baskets to indicate the ace, but others sit up to 50 feet away. I had the privilege of moving the CTP rock at hole #7 after an amazing drive that was parked about 10' from the pin. It's just another cool feature that you can't find at a public course.

BEST HOLE/S: #1, #29

It took our group of six four hours to complete the course. Admittedly, I like to sit back and enjoy a good course, but four hours was even pushing it for me. Granted there were six people, and four playing for the first time, but just keep in mind this course is not quick.

There is a voluntary donation of $10 to play the course, which is more than any other course I've ever played, but I don't know if this is a con as much as a mention to make future players aware. Plus, I gave a few bucks to our guide for showing us a good time, so just be prepared to spend some money.

Also, this may or may not be a con depending on your viewpoint, but there are not 30 pins. With around 20 pins, many holes double back towards the house even though each hole still maintains a unique look. Plus, I'll admit it, sometimes things started to blend together and I was glad to be done in the end. I would certainly play this course again if I was ever out in the area, but you will earn your stripes out here.

WORST HOLE/S: #11

Phantom Falls plays an amazing and quite clever array of holes on a fairly tight piece of land. Mike, our guide, thought it was about 7 acres, which is amazing considering you have 30 holes and 20 pins - two of which are chime pins and one hanging basket. The clever part is how the course plays back and forth on itself throwing to some pins up to three times. There isn't a congestion issue being a privately owned course where our group was the only ones on the mountainside the entire day. Although throwing to the same pin would typically be a negative of most courses, Paulie has cleverly designed the course to give each hole a unique look with different looks at a pin you may have just shot at four holes earlier.

I always have much love and admiration for any person striving to design, build, and maintain a quality private course. As with my previous experiences on private courses there is a unique feel that simply can't be attained by a public course. Couple that with great hosts with a love for the game, and you have a winning combination. I felt good donating money to help Phantom Falls grow, improve, and expand on this already impressive piece of property. I have played many of what I would consider "sister" courses, but the combo of Phantom Falls and Beaver Ranch in Conifer just seven miles away make this the best one two punch yet. Anyone visiting the Denver area owes it to themselves to make a trip up in these mountains, since it may be one of the best disc golf experiences you'll ever have.

Amazing scenery. Very technical, Long shots through tight gaps. Ace runs/short shots. One of the coolest looking baskets by far you'll ever play on with the "money hole". Chime baskets for Ace possibilities.

Geez what a workout? Do some stretches cause your legs will burn after this monster... Other con: Not getting to play it again....

You can tell this is Paulie's baby. A lot of time, love and sweat has gone into this course making is truley special and a must play even if your 16 hours away . Id love to have the chance to play this wonderful course again and maybe beat that first round score, and most importantly get on the "wall"...

Not alot i can say that has'nt been said about this course.. its simply great. good variety of awsome shots. you know how some holes just make ya want to throw again and again to empty your bag, most of the holes here are like that. lots of aceable runs
easy to navigate course with the pointing stones. looks like there are going to be some real nice signage when he gets finished

a workout for sure take plenty of water and snacks. a little higher than others with a 10$ pay to play but still worth it for a long trip such as ours. {fromKC} might be pricy for locals to play regularly though.

What a great day, escaping the hoards of people and lack of interesting terrain in and around Denver to this mountain retreat. Large pine trees provide shade and the property has all kinds of diversity - from elevated tee boxes to gulches. A variety of hole design tests all your skills, and keeps all 33 holes fun and unique!

Also, the course seems to be continually improved. It's fun to go back to check in on the latest updates!

Bring some extra discs; there are lots of huge pine trees and you might find one too tough to retrieve.

After playing, drive further south along Pine Valley Rd for a scenic river view and if you're from Denver head home on the back roads (SW Platte River Road).

Many holes, 28 is the official count and I'm sure that by the time the creation is over there will be more. Number one is the $ hole, and silly me, I forgot to ask why. The $ hole is sure to become famous because it is handcrafted out of wood and provides ample opportunity for acing because it is one of the shorter and more open holes on the course. I bet that it will be the most photographed feature on the course. Most of the baskets are brand new Lightning DB-5's but there is an honest smattering of unique homemade baskets beyond the famous $ hole basket. One, like hanging chimes from a bowing tree at the bottom of a short ravine with a forty foot drop from the tee that begs you to empty your bag at it. The placement of the DB-5's are extremely unique, proving much risk reward, some at a cliff's edge others protected by rocks in the middle of a convergence of two hillsides.

Phantom falls is like the stock market, its up and down and then up and down again. I was beat after playing this course because I was simply not used to it. Go into a round at Phantom expecting to become a mountaineer. Admittedly there are more dramatic climbs at other Colorado disc golf courses, but you never get much of a break from the inclines here. I was sore after playing here, I earned it. The course is tight and challenging if you have a technical game in your bag you will greatly enjoy this course. The course is a disc golfers private fun-land, as such, is has a very high fun factor. There is a wide variety of looks and shots available during a round here.

For not being cement, the tee boxes are good quality. It is obvious that much labor has gone into the construction of the boxes, its one of the standout characteristics of Phantom. It is also well signed and marked usually just a simple rock with numbers and arrows on them but effective. As a work in process, I'm sure that all of these little things will become even better by the time you get around to playing it. The course is private, which as a "pro" gives is a total community feel with loads of comradery. I would recommend this course for anyone that's down to experience something different, beginners and pros alike who can respect a cool dude's private property.

The fact that its private and you have to call Paulie (who is a cool dude by the way) to get a tee time. It feels like its favors the right hand side-armer over other types of throwers. Its missing a long bomber shot. Instead of touring the land you comb it throughly backwards and forwards usually sharing a basket later on getting different looks at it. This is a home course, the course you would build if you had the land to, as such it will never be the big tournament ready park or public course.

When I think about the foothills of the Rockies this is the type of steep angled mountainside with tall skinny pines that comes to mind. Man, the list of great Colorado mountain courses just continues to climb, I realize that each person will have their own rankings and favorites but Phantom Falls holds it own with the best of them. It deserves a place in the conversation of "best Colorado courses." The fun factor is so high that I could see driving past Beaver Ranch to play this again. Next time I go, I'm eating at Zoka's Restaurant and Bar (which is only a mile and a half away) before or after the round because I was paired up with the owner and the guy knows his disc golf.
I could have rated this course a 4.0, this is one of those times I wish I could give out a 4.25 but high quality boxes and having a ton of holes ultimately bumped it up in my mind.

Quiet peaceful surroundings in the mtns. outside of Denver. So nice to play disc without cars and tons of pedestrians around. Accuracy and approach game is a key ingredient to scoring well. Many holes have overhand lines that are your best and safest option but with wind being a factor the only time I've played so far, those lines become unplayable and too dangerous. Excellent use of basket placement near terrain undulations that create smart putting and sometimes a little luck to not get a roll on a miss. Loved the CTP gnomes etc. and the aspen basket and chime hole. Overall tight demanding course that requires direct lines and accuracy.
Paulie has updated the course dramatically since I was last up and it looks amazing! So much easier to navigate and he has even gotten the ok for some new holes that play on fresh land. These new holes are sweet and while just in their infancy when we played them they are awesome.

Sometimes get a deja vu' feeling being in the pine trees the whole time.

Please don't litter anything on Paulie's land...Be respectful, and be thankful that this course is around.

Next to Beaver Ranch/Conifer Community Park, this is my favorite mountain course along the 285 mountain corridor. The first hole has a chained basket made of wood which is an absolute thing of beauty!! One of the best things about this course is because of it's southern exposure, it can be played year round. Stink Finger Gulch creates several outstanding, testing holes. As already noted, bring your A-game for accuracy; otherwise, it'll be a long day and an over par round. 11-29-2009: all kinds of updates including several new benches, improved tee boxes, and better signage.

Tee boxes are natural. Shared baskets on many holes. One hole has chimes (but I love the chimes!!). Won't need too many drivers in the bag.

Undulating. Up and down all day long. One of the real nice perks is the course comes back to the house on a couple of occasions, which means you can refuel with drinks, etc. Almost every hole can produce a 2 or a 5. There are a few opportunities for sweet sky hyzers but mostly you'll be throwing rocs or buzz's or the like.

I've thrown a -9 and a +6 within 2 weeks time. When it's windy it's a real challenge as accuracy is a must.
