Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 5, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- There isn't really anything negative to say about the course itself. It's a beautiful area, a perfectly kept ball course. Everything looks great.

- The layout of course is pretty good. All the holes are different, and have some sort of challenge to them, whether it is water, OB, or trees. A lot of holes allow you to unleash, but it is balanced by many that require precision over strength, and some require a lot of both. Having short and long tees on each hole is a nice touch, but I think it could've been done better (more in Cons Section).

- Baskets were perfect, and even though the tee boxes are natural, they are kept well and are fine.

- I would highly recommend getting the map off here or in the club house, because distance numbers aren't kept on the tee signs. The map is very helpful and is well made.

Cons:

- Hole signage is pretty much awful. The tee sings are just 3ft posts with a sign that says "#1 Long" and so on for long and short. No distance, no reference basket location. Surely this can be improved, it just seems lazy. There is also almost no help finding the next hole other than the map. One hole does, but it's between 14 & 15, and that's only because 15 is in the middle of the woods/hell.

- Speaking of #15 (aka HellTrack), it needs to go. It's impossible, unfair, ugly to look at, and frankly a garbage hole. A almost perfect throw will likely end up being a triple bogey, and an awful throw can very easily bounce its way down the fairway. Holes should reward quality throws, not sheer luck. And if you think you can throw a roller, false, the stumps from the trees they cleared to make the hole are still there, so no rollers, and the trees are too thick and close to the tee box to go over (unless you have the greatest overhead shot in the game). There is plenty more room out there to add another hole, and remove this one. Please do it.

- I can see this being too difficult for beginners. I completely understand making the course difficult and wanting to use as much land as possible, but I'd imagine someone who has not become competent at playing would find the course to be too much.

- Like I said above the Long and Short tees are nice. However, there isn't much of a difference between them besides distance. A few holes were completely different between tees, but those were the exception, not the common. This typically isn't an issue, since most courses with two tees want the shorts to just be kids/women/beginner tees, but they seemed to think of them as almost two separate courses. Like when you pay, it's $5 for a day, which gives the impression that you should want to come play both. There are some good differences between the tees, but I wouldn't make it a point to play both tees, there isn't much difference, other than some of the long tees, are really much longer.

Other Thoughts:

- Overall, it is a top notch course, definitely worthy of going out of your way to play. I don't like pay-to-plays, so I wouldn't choose to go and play here, but for someone passing through, 5 bucks is worth to get it under your belt and move on.

- I also would recommend NOT getting the cart. Unless you just have $5 to burn, just want the experience of playing with a cart, or physically need the cart, walking is just fine. It is a long course, and you will be tired by the end, but it's not like there are large walks between holes, it's just more money for the course.

- If you are in the area, it should be toward the top of the list to go visit, but if you are wanting to play two rounds, I would recommend Burns Park, the two courses give more variety than the two sets of tees here.

Pine Valley review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 6, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

There is not a better course around if you are looking to improve on distance. The routes you have to throw are pretty fun and challenging and the water keeps skilled players honest. Golf carts make the long course easier to play and there is a nice gazebo right at the beginning. This is a course with so much potential to be a great championship course. As far as spending all day at a course goes, this is the one. It's $5 to play but it's good all day and it's a fun day out at Pine Valley. Grab some bagged lunches and shoot a couple rounds there with very friendly staff and nice pro shop at the front.

Cons:

Don't ever bring a new player because it's way too long and too much water. Mud, mud, mud, and more mud is pretty common here. Non-locals (the 4-5 I have brought there) get irritated and confused at this course and these are folks that have been playing for years. Admission is all day but carts are not so you have to pay per round and per person and that gets pricey. The tee pads say "natural" on this page and I feel the strong need to clarify that. There are no tee pads what so ever and they are very hard to locate. I haven't been in a few months, but last I saw there are no signs and the tee pads were basically spray painted into the grass and obviously that fades with weather. If it wasn't spray paint it is two tiny little flags that get ran over and moved so it's hard to find them. Natural tee's are just fine, but you still need to be able to locate them. There is a map but a tiny print out map on the back of a score card is hardly as helpful as an actual designed tee pad (even if it's just done with wood around the dirt or big colored rocks to mark tee). My last issue is one that the owners cannot help, but is still an issue. Customer service is great and polite, but they are very clear that regular golfers are first and we are not. Meaning that we wait on them, not the other way around. I guess the con is that having multiple golf games on one course just gets crowded and they (Pine Valley) basically said "They are more important" because Pine Valley was originally just a regular golf course and didn't have disc golf.

Other Thoughts:

If tee pads were actually there and the course had signs at the holes this course could easily be rated 4-4.5 but rating this course that high right now is simply irresponsible because the course has LOTS to work on. Rating it 5 is just ridiculous and untrue. Just because it's the only long course around doesn't make it perfect. It's fairly new so there is nothing wrong with not being perfect yet. The guys who designed the course and the owners of the course have worked very hard making it and I know that it will get better and better. A true non-bias rating is what this is right here. If I go back out there soon and see that tee's are easier to find and maybe we get some signs then I'd update this rating immediately to a better rating.

Pros:

18 beautifully manicured disc golf holes...you can rent a cart too. Scenery, fun to play from either tee pad. I feel this course demands all shot types, i.e. backhand, forehand, roller, positional layups (risk/reward) and of course no 25ft putt is a given with the swirling winds.

Cons:

Sometimes it can get muddy, I'd call after a hard rain.

Other Thoughts:

I may be the course designer but I'm also a client. This has become my home course and I love it!

Pros:

There are countless pros to this course, the scenery, the layout, the carts.
Every hole seemed to be meticulously designed to challenge your skill, that is awesome. The course designers worked hard on this course and it shows.

Cons:

teepads are all natural but very nice, if you are throwing off a golf tee box or a fairway the footing is good. it seems to take a round to adjust and learn the course. There are not really any cons on this course.

Other Thoughts:

Pine valley is now a common name for disc golfers in Arkansas.
Everyone involved in helping with this course has done a very good job. These guys know how to have fun, the burger eating competition at the grand opening was a hoot. All of the tournaments have been very well received with all the cats i hang with it.
