Pros:

Pinehurts is a really fun, somewhat 'shorter', private course that creatively utilizes the woods, a creek, a small pond, and open fields in a long strip of Indiana farm territory. It boasts DGA Mach V baskets and tees made up primarily of ten 2'x'2 pavers each, plus benches, adequate tee signs, and infrastructure, such as bridges, where needed. It has some fun, technical lines, slightly favoring rhbh throwers (so, I like it!). However, if you have the opportunity to play here (private, invitation only play) you will experience lines of flight that do shape in both directions, fly through some low ceilings, and finish in some really tight, tricky 'greens'.

One of the feature holes is the creek-crossing hole 12 at the back of the property, where you have to throw off the tee with enough precision to avoid a large tree obstructing the line, pass over an open meadow and carry past a deep and slow-moving creek into an angled path-sized fairway to the guarded basket. The right line is really satisfying, while just a hair off, and you're facing trees that want to knock your disc into the creek.

The more 'open' and longer holes at the beginning of the course are played with the driveway as OB, and the frequent winds in the area can make it a challenge to play them cleanly. He course flow is logical and direct (exception: there is a slight backtrack after hole 7), with very little chance of losing your way, and (when the course is prepped and ready for the occasional invitation or area tournament), little chance of losing a disc.

Cons:

The lack of monster distance (and elevation) here means that it won't be too grueling a challenge for Advanced to Open players, but they seem to enjoy the fun factor nonetheless. Big hyzer lines (rhbh) tend to share the 1st and 3rd fairway's airspace over the driveway, so you need to be careful of folks on those tees in tourney play. The creek and pond can 'attract' your disc, but a disc gator or similar retrieval device can take care of that. When you tee off on hole 17, you need to be aware of folks teeing on 18, just past the trees on the right side of the S-bending fairway. Other than that, this course doesn't have too many 'cons'.

Other Thoughts:

Greg is a generous host, and has apparently decided to list the course here, despite the fact that there have been times folks weren't too conscientious of his time and property. It's probably best to be patient, and watch the club forum for events (and not pressure him to let you play!) If and when the Indy area club has an event here, or if you are fortunate enough to earn an invite, I hope folks are always considerate, and treat his course (and him) with respect!

Reviewer Background as of this writing: played 265 courses and written 245 reviews, with skills hovering around a 900 rating, I started playing at 50 and am now 55. I don't throw far (300 footers feel like success), but am addicted to DG, and have played with folks ranging from age 7 to 87, so I try to write reviews helpful to all.
