A Pleasant Run Of Holes.

Reviewed: Played on:May 19, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

(2.095 Rating) A well-kept two-tee niner great for Novices and Rec Players
- REC FRIENDLY AND FUN FACTOR - This is about as ideal as it gets for a small town course in a limited footprint space. The distances from the back tees average 224 feet long. It's hard to lose a disc and searching is only going to occur in a couple spots on bad shots. Locals playing here are going to collect aces and go on birdie fests from time to time while still offering intriguing gameplay.
- DUAL TEES AND CHAINS - As already alluded to above, there are two sets of tees here. The shorts average about 180 feet long and are mostly beginner friendly in my opinion. The chains are pro 28 DISCatchers. The best money can buy.
- SIGNAGE AND NAVIGATION - The tee signs are at least 4 years old now and are still in great shape. They have all the info on them that is needed including the location of the next tee. No course map posted, but its omission was not detrimental to me in figuring it out. Once finding tee (1), the next tees were generally nearby.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - A very well maintained park. Just about every location on the disc golf layout was in good shape on my play. Hole (9), which was the one wooded shot and up an un-mowable slope, was the only location looking a little hairy for my visit. I gave the course an above average score (60 percentile) for this important attribute.
- QUICK PLAY - Less than 30 minutes to play for blind first timers.

Cons:

A solid small niner with some preferential cons.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - The challenge is a little too light on a couple holes. In general, the holes are on the more simplistic side, and I think the bar is set too low on holes like (6) and (8). Rec players should average at least a couple under par and should still be more than entertained. I was a bit underwhelmed as an Intermediate.
- LOCATION - So remote that many of the regional hardcore baggers haven't been here yet. (Reviewer check's the who's played it list) never mind, we have all been here now.
- POISON IVY - In the rare chance one ends up off fairway, there is poison ivy here. Especially on hole (9). I also pulled a tick off post round. I don't take off rating points for this.
- TEES - The tees are natural, framed with timbers and infilled to be generally flat. Actually some of the better natural tees I've played on. Perhaps they are periodically providing maintenance for them. Still not as good as concrete or properly installed turf tee.
- HOLE VARIETY - Light on variety compared to the average course, although above average variety compared to the typical nine holer. All par 3s and the longest hole comes in at 350 feet. Six shots are listed at 210 feet or less from the back tees. Two modest down shots and one modest up shot. I liked the bend play on (4). Water comes into play once and there are a couple of moderately wooded holes.

Other Thoughts:

Pleasant Run is a good nine hole track overall. Despite the short length it still felt like proper disc golf and the walk along the grounds were relaxing as well. This course has some solid fun factor to it. I could see those with Rec level skills rating this place higher than I have. Overall, I'm going with a strong 2.0 and I would call it better than the average 9 hole course. Worth checking out if you live within 30 minutes. For those in Nashville, Memphis and Sholes area, I don't think it's special enough to seek out. Definitely worth a tally mark for us course baggers though.

FUN Course Short Pitch & Putt 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 8, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Really fun course worth the stop if your passing thru. The baskets are all discatchers in good condition. Two tee pads for each 9 holes. The shorter pads are relatively easy work I was able to birdie 7 of them. the longer ones are also easy nothing over 300. The beauty of this course if the layout across a pond and using elevation. Well maintained. Nice AC bathrooms on site. Good signage easy to navigate. Family friendly course saw beginners and other playing and having a good time. plenty of parking.

Cons:

No Cons- There seems to be move room behind the pond to add more holes. I would love for them to add to this fine course.

Other Thoughts:

The beauty of this course is in the simplicity. I used to play other short courses like this and loved them with my kids. But usually they get redesigned and made much tougher much like all the other courses. Please leave this course as is and add more challenging holes if needed. It could use a little trimming on a few of the holes(9) but very fun and playable as is.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

One of the nicest short 9-hole courses anywhere. Pretty setting: mowed grass, lots of trees, some minor elevation up and down, and a lake in view and in play on one shot.

Discatcher baskets a good fit here, and practically brand new. Easily spotted, bright yellow, numbered- what you expect to have.

Two sets of tees for different skill levels and an opportunity for "18 holes". Tees are just gravel/natural in wood frames that are flush with the ground, but not being concrete, they were surprisingly good and easy to find. No need for huge run-ups anyways.

Tee signs are outstanding- visible, color, all necessary info is there. They went all in on these, and I appreciate the logical placement of the sign posts and consideration of both tees!

Great course for beginners and kids, especially from the shorts. Totally beginner appropriate lengths, nothing frustrating, just fun. Quick to play, or even play multiple times. The whole thing can be played with a putter and/or mid, with a two shots maybe requiring a fairway driver.

Seriously, the nicest restroom I have seen in any park, let alone at a disc golf course. The whole park is nice, very inviting, ample parking, just peaceful and enjoyable.

Only course located in a fairly wide radius geographically.

Cons:

Some of the tees need some upkeep already as the natural/gravel surface can blend in to the ground.

Somewhat crammed on holes 5-9 with many baskets near the next tee.

Lack of hole length variety with the longer, tougher holes all lumped together 2-4, and then 5-9 are all short, so not a great mixing up of lengths.

Course is pretty easy for anyone with experience, and would not take long to master eventually. Rounds of 18-20 easily possible from the shorts and maybe even from the longs.

Hole 1 is a short shot over the water, but nothing too scary; it could even be considered the "signature hole"... but it is the first shot. My suggestion would have been to start the course on hole 5 as a warmup section with all the short shots, put the water hole in the middle, then end with the 3 longer holes.

Large area between the parking lot, restrooms, and hole #1 that is just begging to have a practice basket (or 2) put in there. Maybe one is in the plans.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course, I played it twice (once from each set of tees). I enjoyed a chance at making multiple ace runs and working on teeing off with my mids and putters.

I wasn't sure what to expect with no pics until I took some, and the conditions saying new, needs work, but playable. I was anticipating a mess and a waste of 2 hours extra drive time just to play here, but I was absolutely pleasantly surprised with the design and detail put in. A 2.0 may seem a bit harsh because it is fun and nice, and serves a good purpose, and a 2 equates to Reasonable on the DGCR scale. But in the grand scheme of all courses, it lacks in the area of challenging any level of experienced disc golfer.

I had to search for tee 5 for a minute: after playing 4 cross the road (you will see basket 5), pass through the opening in the fence, walk left along the inside of the fence back towards the parking lot, white tee is in the corner.

Not sure what all land is available, but there appeared to be lots and lots of room for more holes or even another course- 9 technical wooded holes could be a great addition.

This park is on Stevens Rd. just off the main highway. It is NOT in the baseball park on Hwy 64 at that intersection- believe me, I looked there first, no baskets.
