Pros:
One of the nicest short 9-hole courses anywhere. Pretty setting: mowed grass, lots of trees, some minor elevation up and down, and a lake in view and in play on one shot.
Discatcher baskets a good fit here, and practically brand new. Easily spotted, bright yellow, numbered- what you expect to have.
Two sets of tees for different skill levels and an opportunity for "18 holes". Tees are just gravel/natural in wood frames that are flush with the ground, but not being concrete, they were surprisingly good and easy to find. No need for huge run-ups anyways.
Tee signs are outstanding- visible, color, all necessary info is there. They went all in on these, and I appreciate the logical placement of the sign posts and consideration of both tees!
Great course for beginners and kids, especially from the shorts. Totally beginner appropriate lengths, nothing frustrating, just fun. Quick to play, or even play multiple times. The whole thing can be played with a putter and/or mid, with a two shots maybe requiring a fairway driver.
Seriously, the nicest restroom I have seen in any park, let alone at a disc golf course. The whole park is nice, very inviting, ample parking, just peaceful and enjoyable.
Only course located in a fairly wide radius geographically.
Cons:
Some of the tees need some upkeep already as the natural/gravel surface can blend in to the ground.
Somewhat crammed on holes 5-9 with many baskets near the next tee.
Lack of hole length variety with the longer, tougher holes all lumped together 2-4, and then 5-9 are all short, so not a great mixing up of lengths.
Course is pretty easy for anyone with experience, and would not take long to master eventually. Rounds of 18-20 easily possible from the shorts and maybe even from the longs.
Hole 1 is a short shot over the water, but nothing too scary; it could even be considered the "signature hole"... but it is the first shot. My suggestion would have been to start the course on hole 5 as a warmup section with all the short shots, put the water hole in the middle, then end with the 3 longer holes.
Large area between the parking lot, restrooms, and hole #1 that is just begging to have a practice basket (or 2) put in there. Maybe one is in the plans.
Other Thoughts:
Fun course, I played it twice (once from each set of tees). I enjoyed a chance at making multiple ace runs and working on teeing off with my mids and putters.
I wasn't sure what to expect with no pics until I took some, and the conditions saying new, needs work, but playable. I was anticipating a mess and a waste of 2 hours extra drive time just to play here, but I was absolutely pleasantly surprised with the design and detail put in. A 2.0 may seem a bit harsh because it is fun and nice, and serves a good purpose, and a 2 equates to Reasonable on the DGCR scale. But in the grand scheme of all courses, it lacks in the area of challenging any level of experienced disc golfer.
I had to search for tee 5 for a minute: after playing 4 cross the road (you will see basket 5), pass through the opening in the fence, walk left along the inside of the fence back towards the parking lot, white tee is in the corner.
Not sure what all land is available, but there appeared to be lots and lots of room for more holes or even another course- 9 technical wooded holes could be a great addition.
This park is on Stevens Rd. just off the main highway. It is NOT in the baseball park on Hwy 64 at that intersection- believe me, I looked there first, no baskets.
