Redwood Christian Park Is A Bit Rustic! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 25, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Redwood Christian Park is high up the hills in Boulder Creek. The area is definitely a haven for granola eating burned out hippies from the 60's. Everyone I saw on the drive here fit into that stereotype, flannels shirts and old gray haired guys with ponytails. Man, they could tell some fascinating tales from the old days of drugs, rock and roll and free love! This rustic mountain area also seems to be the home of many camps of various types.

The park is not too big centered around some admin buildings and two smallish grassy areas. The bigger of the two grassy areas seems to be the center of the campus and while the smaller one is by the concrete picnic tables and the giant wooden ark which sits up on a hillside.

The course is a little confusing to follow without a map and there no on-line version. I was in and out so quickly I didn't bother trying to figure out where to go to get a map. The first hole starts behind the prayer chapel and plays to the basket near the swing set. The signs are fiberglass set in a nice wooden frame. The baskets are older, single chain models which have been painted over countless times. I don't believe there are any permanent tee pads. I didn't find any. # 2 and 3 both play around the admin building in this courtyard, grassy area. Then # 4 is a annie throw teeing off right by the concrete picnic table. # 5 basket is set just around the corner directly under the ark. I would have liked to explore this ark some just to see if there was any animal scat left. # 6 is a short, straight 195' throw. # 8 is a long 520' hole playing across the grassy area.

Cons:

Many holes play right through the center and close to administrative buildings.

Old single chain baskets which have been painted over countless times.

How playable would this course be when campers are here? Seems like a recipe for some camper to get thumped with a disc.

Navigation is not entirely clear.

8 holes?

Other Thoughts:

It's great that they have a course here. I think disc golf is a wonderful game to expose young folks to. The problem I too often see is designers thinking they have to make their courses longer and more challenging than needed, especially with campers who have no distance and very little control over their discs. It's too bad that this course was not a little more isolated as playing right through the epicenter of the camp can't be a good plan.
