Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 4, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

An absolutely beautiful course located on Hunt Valley Country Club which is shared by ball golf and kick golf.

As someone who almost always plays at sea level, I really enjoyed the elevation changes (Hole 1 is a sweet downhill bomb) and how the pin locations flowed with the terrain for challenging but fun holes.

The entire course is maintained very well and while most of the fairways are open, they still require accuracy on your drives to avoid the rough. All of the drop zones were in fair locations and none of them felt like a punishment for going OB.

They have golf carts! This was great as I played two rounds during a tournament and still logged about 15,000 steps on my fitness tracker carting around all day.

The clubhouse and surrounding area seemed pretty upper class which was refreshing due to the riff raff I've come across at other courses (based on their location alone).

Good fun factor with a variety of lines to attack each hole from. I can't think of any holes where it was crucial to hit a certain line on for a good score.

Cons:

Without a golf cart, there would be some very long walks between some holes and the elevation change would probably kill any motivation I'd have for walking a second round.

Only country club members have regular access to the course. While understandable due to the nature of the course/location, it makes a casual round while nearby almost impossible. I do believe that its a bit pricey but for the quality of the course I would consider it if I lived closer.

All of the tees were brackets sprayed on grass or cart paths. As sidewinder stated in his review, they felt very temporary given the solid maintenance and facilities everywhere else along the course.

Even though the rough isn't very thick, there are thorns galore. I didn't have trouble spotting any of my discs in the woods but getting to them required a bit of grace.

Other Thoughts:

While I have only played here once during a tournament, I was able to play both the short and long tees (only one pin location per hole). I had a great time and would certainly consider paying up for league play if I wasn't so far away.

Even though the focus of this place is its ball golf course, it's a nice classy disc golf course that with a few tweaks (concrete tee pads, more descriptive signs, an open day once in a while) would be even better. I'd love to play here again if I get a chance.

Hunt Valley Ridge 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 14, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Beautiful private 18 hole course at country club with Golf Carts! 18 DisCatcher baskets with multiple tees providing appropriate challenge for all skill levels.

Elevation and creeks designed nicely into the course with good basket placements for risk and reward. High fun factor on the elevated tees and course gives ample opportunity to throw far, but still require some accuracy. Good mix of pars between holes. Course navigation flows naturally along the ball golf and kick golf course.

Maintained like a golf course - ha. Most of the rough off the fairway isn't as bad as it looks.

Country club membership gives you access to many nice amenities including food and beverages and pool and don't forget the carts!

Cons:

Nothing major to complain about. Country club membership requirement to play here except for PDGA sanctioned league play or tournaments, so it's going to be hard for non-members to gain access to play here and league play is relatively expensive compared to other leagues, but the greens fee is fair IMO. Dress code - same as PDGA NT.

Shares course with ball golf and kick golf, and plays through neighborhood. You have to go up and down a road from the clubhouse to get to and from the DG course and also cross a road to get to hole 5. Some very long walks if you don't get a cart.

Currently the tees are a mix of either asphalt or grass and signage is very basic - I anticipate these may be upgraded in near future. Course is mostly open, not very technically demanding. Some of the rough off the fairway is very prickly with potential to lose disc.

Other Thoughts:

I've played here twice, the first was on the Open House day, where we were only allowed to play the front 9 holes and no carts. The staff did cart us up to hole 1 and a few of the longer transitions between holes and back to the clubhouse, but had to walk the rest of the 9 holes. My first impression was somewhat meh overall, other than hole 1 and 5 which I really liked.

The second time I played here was the first league play and finally got to play all 18 holes and get a cart! The cart makes this a so much more enjoyable and faster experience, and also IMO the back nine is a little better overall than the front 9.

Favorite holes are 1 which is a huge downhill par 4 bomb to welcome you to the course. Hole 5 is another par 4 sweet elevated tee shot with a slight doglegged second shot to the basket across the creek. Holes 11, 12, 14 are also fun downhill RHBH hyzer shots. The rest of the holes are solid and provide decent variety.

If I lived closer I'd likely consider a membership. If you get a chance to play here, you will probably enjoy it and make sure to get a cart!
