Ridgewater College 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 11, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ This course was built by the students at the college. Ag dept laid it out, welding made the baskets, and auto body clear coated the signs. An excellent demonstration on how colleges can combine education and recreation
+ Beautiful rolling hills
+ Very nice signage and map at start
+ Concrete tees
+ Good mix of open and wooded holes. The open holes employ elevation and strategic trees to keep things interesting
+ I don't often compliment the garbage cans on courses, but special shout out to the welding dept for making these beautiful garbage cans.

Cons:

-Hole 9 requires a 300 ft shot over the walking path, watch for pedestrians.
This is literally the only con

Other Thoughts:

For a 4.0 rating: add a second set of tees, incorporate the woods a little more, add holes if you can

Nice Small Campus Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 4, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The setting is visually stunning, with gently rolling hills and modestly wooded landscape. The campus offers amenities such as bathrooms and there seems to be a student center where one might purchase snacks (it was closed on the weekend, even though the school year is in session).

Concrete tees have been added on many holes, and the home made baskets are of exceptional quality.

The 1st hole is a 400' bomber with a hillside green. The 2nd a mid range downhill technical hole. The 3rd and 4th are nice mid to driver range technical holes.

The 5th is a bit open and boring and the 6th is one of those tunnel holes so common in MN. The 7th is long and only trouble to a RHBH who has a bail out hyzer.

The 8th is a nice short technical hole and the 9th is a great long, technical finishing hole.

It's a nice mix of very challenging holes and must birdie holes.

Cons:

Difficult to find, as only the locals would know that the highway you exit on comes to a T and you are required to turn onto a road that bears two numbers (I have corrected the directions).

While it is fairly challenging, these are all clearly par 3s and it would be very difficult to bring a 4 into play on even the most difficult holes (with the possible exception of #9, especially for those who throw 250' or under).

#6's tunnel shot are horrible holes so common in MN and rarely seen elsewhere, a hole in a reachable range that can almost never be reached (and may be the only other hole that could result in a 4 if your drive hits a tree early).

Other Thoughts:

This is a decent little course and makes a nice companion to the 18 hole course at Robbin's Lake, since half of that course is a horrible design and half of it is great. Playing the two courses will give you 9 modestly hilly and wooded holes, 9 very hilly and technical holes, and 9 wide open and boring holes.

Sounds like a perfect day in Wilmar!
