Risk-It Discuit Really Is A Gut Check! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 3, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Besides one of the cooler names in all of disc golf kingdom, this course WAS NOT designed for out-of-shape old men, like myself. The course plays along an old cattle ridge with some extreme elevation, heavily wooded and lots of disc hiding ferns and other assorted underbrush. It has that same Jurassic Park vibe like the NAD DGC in Bremerton. Most holes play under 300' but more than make for up for the lack of distance with some treacherous gullies and scary basket placements. There are some awesomely cool routes to the baskets and the signature hole, # 5, is a very cool 180' almost straight downhill throw. It's very reminiscent of the # 4 hole at Rooster Rock East down south in Oregon.

The amenities are of the simple backyard disc golf course staples here, small but clever natural tee pads, a combination of homemade tones and four slightly small baskets. There are no signs but your UDisc app will get you through.

Owner/Course Pro/Designer/ Maintenance man Al doesn't want the general public showing up unannounced to his course. Mostly, it's a course for him and his very fit but masochistic friends to enjoy. He thereby reserves the right to leave the address and directions off any disc golf sites. The problem this creates is his course is not listed on any maps. To find it, you'll need to type in the clever name, Risk-it Discuit, and it will magically appear. To play, you need to email Al and set up a time to come out and experience his little slice of heaven. It is one of the more difficult courses you'll find to bag in Washington State.

Cons:

Cons? Yes, the course has them in the boatloads. No signs, grueling dangerous terrain, lost discs, tones, disc hiding ferns and rougher than usual tee pads.

This course probably won't be your cup of tea if you're out of shape, old or have creaky knees. Oh Gees, I'm describing myself. To be truthful, if I was in Al's crazy circle of friends, I'd probably be staying home on league nights trimming my toenails or something.

Not the easiest course to bag.

Other Thoughts:

Despite its blemishes, Risk-it Discuit has a certain quaintness and appeal to it. There are lots of great throws to made here along with plenty of opportunities for lost discs and laughable and possibly life-crippling, injurious moments. I bet Al and the hooligans have a ton of laughs on those league nights, kind of like Norm and his cronies at the "Cheers" bar in Boston.
