Worst 5 Star course I've ever played...

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 3, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

+3 practice baskets at the start (old course was a 12 hole course)
+9 baskets on the course are all in good shape. I think they are repainted Innova baskets. The original course was destroyed by flooding at a nearby location. The baskets might have needed paint to improve their look. They have Rotary logos on top of them.
+Concrete tees
+Nice sign at the start with course map. Each hole has a small sign on it as well. Navigation is pretty easy on the first visit.
+Bag hooks on the tee sign poles.
+The first four holes are under a canopy of medium sized trees. The lines are tight but fair and you need to manage the height of your throws well. The last 5 are much more open.
+Pretty good length and variety of length for a city course. One in the low to mid 200s and the longest one was around 500' I think.
+Nice bike path and dog park nearby but not affecting the course at all.
+Hole 5 is a fun water carry with an alternate throw if you don't think you can make it.

Cons:

-Very flat
-Last 5 holes are quite open and just have tall grass lining the fairways for challenge. Not my favorite obstacle for sure.
-Could easily lose a disc in the tall grass on many of the holes. Even a shot that is not far in there. Would definitely frustrate newer players as the fairways aren't super wide.
-Could get quite windy out here. Especially on the last 5 holes.

Other Thoughts:

+I knew that this course couldn't possibly be a 5 star course. I had visited this area 4-5 years ago when the old course was in. It had been destroyed by flooding before I got there but I still knew what the landscape would look like. While riding my bike around the area yesterday, I even saw an old tee sign on a tree from the old course.
+This course is pretty well executed given the land that they had to work with. Unfortunately, land is a premium in northwest Iowa and not a lot of it is great for disc golfing.
+This is a really nice town and has a great infrastructure for bicycling if you are into that. There is also a nice campground just north of the course.
+The fun factor here is just ok for me. I liked the first 4 holes more with their technical throws. The last 4 holes especially weren't that fun. Throw it pretty hard and try to land in the fairway or you will probably be looking for a few minutes.

First Time Around drive by

Pros:

Techincal shot making on the first 4 holes; hole 5 over water!

Cons:

The switch grass is TALL-watch your disc carefully! on 7, don't go left-marshland gets soggy!

Other Thoughts:

Great all around course for all ages to play. Wonderfully accessible from the bike trails.
