A Nice Surprise! drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful signage with a lovely, full color map at the first tee, equally nice signs at each hole, and HUGE, very visible Next Tee signs everywhere.Incredibly clean Port-a-John between holes 1 and 2.Really well cleared fairways with plenty of room for flex shots and multiple routes on many holes.Lots of downed logs lining the walkways making navigation a breeze.A wide variety of hole shapes, lane widths, hole distances, and basket guarding.Flat, grippy tee pads.Benches on many holes.

Cons:

Tee pads are a bit short for big run-ups.A few longish walks between holes.

Other Thoughts:

What a fun course!! We really enjoyed the varied pin placement and great use of park features and elevation. The designers did an excellent job of avoiding throwing at/across any of the other park users and facilities. The Next Tee signs meant we never had to guess where to go next. The entire course was well mowed and tended and almost completely litter free. We will definitely be back!

Fun / Challenging Short Course drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 24, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful scenery playing through the woods on almost every hole (2 fairly open bombers)Short and fun course for players of all skill levelNice Tee Pads Very well maintained

Cons:

Very little course guidance from hole-to-holeCan be very punishing when you get off the fairway, lots of thorns/picker bushes on some holes

Other Thoughts:

My local course and one of my favorites in the state to play (could be local bias). Would say it\'d definitely worth the stop for a quick round!

Decent nine holer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 16, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Signs are accurate and navigation is easy to follow.
The design is decent considering they had to go around a park and use already existing walking trails.
I liked the wood chip teepads better than natural or dirt. Would be nice to see a few more courses at the very least do wood chips.

Cons:

It was not very challenging and I am not a pro disc golfer by any means.
I'd like to see a little more variety and at least a hole or two with a difficult tee shot.
The first hole is right next to a practice football field. I felt weird throwing over a bunch of junior high age kids while they practice.

Other Thoughts:

Not a bad nine hole course at all. If you need to get a quick nine in, it's worth your time. If you're looking for something more challenging, skip it.
I would play again if I'm passing through and don't have a ton of time.
Is there room for more holes here? I wonder how much property the park owns.

Good use of elevation, with a couple flaws 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Aesthetic-- plays around the periphery of a large, multi-use township park. Hiking trails intertwine with the course so watch for walkers. Signs mark where these intersections may occur.

Baskets-- nice. brand new and visible in the thick woods. Flags may assist visibility.

Routing and nav-- next tee signs are everywhere. Easy to find where to go. Only long walk is 3 to 4 and the next tee signs tell you exactly where to go along with the tee sign for 4 being highly visible.

Teesigns-- very nice. diagram, length, hole #. Perfect combo.

Cons:

Teepads/boxes-- Woodchips. While adequate here, with it's short holes, woodchips have a finite lifespan and will need regularly replaced. Upkeep will be laborious and expensive.

Challenge/variety-- #5 plays up a little hill which is nice for an elevation change. Most holes are pretty short with the exception of #1. Most holes are also pretty straight with little variety in hyzer/anhyzer.

Risk v Reward-- none.

#8/#9-- #8 and #9 play parallel to each other with the player traversing up the fairway for #9 after playing #8. No natural shield prevents people on #9 (or 8 for that matter) from throwing on people walking up the trail. Tis a safety issue in my book. Also, #9 exits through the basket area for #1 which is someone was truly going for the basket on #1, could cause issues in safety.

Other Thoughts:

Decent little 9 hole course. I could see them adding another 9. I will send a message to change course name to "Roscommon twp DGC" at Skinner Park.
