Pros:
Shenandoah Christian Church is a pretty typical roadside church just before the BOOMING metropolis of Shenandoah, OH.
If you drive a couple minutes down the road, you'll find a Dollar General. This will likely give you more pleasure than playing a round at the course.
+ Now you'll NEVER hear me slam cute little church courses. Especially those that are in an area with no courses at all. So I'll get into the few positives first.
+ There are eight baskets in an area that previously had zero baskets. That's a positive.
+ There is a spacious parking lot that is the literal start for the first tee. That's a positive.
+ Most of the course is secluded and quiet. That's a positive.
Cons:
- The mix-and-match baskets are some of the worst I've played on. I played two rounds, and ended up with three center chain outs and two putts fall through the bottom of the basket Corey Ellis style.
- There is absolutely no signage or designated tee areas, essentially making this a "basket-to-basket course". If you're not using UDisc, there's no chance you're going to play this correctly.
- The course plays around/through a few "hazards". One of these hazards is on hole #6, where part of circle 1 is in a cemetery. Not knowing this, I threw a hard forehand from the tee, and I believe I ended up hitting the tombstone of Mrs. Summers. I'm sure she was a nice lady and didn't deserve that. At least she gave me a few extra feet of roll to secure a birdie!
- Other hazards include LONG grass and thorns on both sides of some fairways, two play sets, and a basketball court. I kind of wish I brought a ball to play on that court, because I wanted to shoot on the wooded backboards. The church itself can be an obstacle on #6 if you try to go under the canopy to the basket.
Other Thoughts:
I've only issued one zero since I started reviewing courses, and I typically reserve that rating for absolute unplayable disasters. Shenandoah definitely doesn't fit into that description. The fairways are well manicured and the course actually flows quite nicely. Unfortunately, the land provided is boring and the equipment is very bad.
Unless you're an extreme course bagger, you can decide to ShenanNOTGO to Shenandoah.
