Shockingly Horrible 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 14, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

- clean facility
- plenty of parking
- mild changes in elevation throughout the course
- a light mix if open and wooded holes
- color coordinated tee posts and baskets to aid course flow, although some basket stickers were faded or missing
-most areas are regularly landscaped

Cons:

- limited course access, I arrived on a Saturday and the facility was "closed"
- low quality baskets, thin chains, not enough layers
- most of the baskets were broken and or not level
- some baskets lacked numbers
- natural tees
- not much fairway definition
- overlapping fairways, some tee pads in the line of fire
- no map
- tee posts lacked distances
- no navigational aids

Other Thoughts:

The course occupies dead space of a lodge's recreation property, beside a lake and basketball court. The holes feature a mix of open park style play and a few partially wooded fairways. I get the feeling that this course was added to the recreation area specifically as an introduction course for beginners and never got updated. The baskets are of the bargain variety, worn out, and poorly labeled. The only signage related to disc golf on the grounds are the numbered 4x4 posts that mark the natural tees.

The entirety of the course is somewhat unremarkable. The grass areas were trimmed and open. The woods were less maintained with a lower ceiling, but not necessarily technical. At times, I became confused about which basket to throw to. Things were color coordinated, however the stickers on the baskets were hard to see and were faded. Not all baskets were numbered, either.

Technically, I didn't make a reservation to throw the course. I snuck on, threw, and left. I intended to pay for the round, but the offices where closed, which was unexpected. I'm not sure if that was because of it's the off season for the facility, it was a big NASCAR race day, or if it's simply just a poor business model. I decided to channel my inner Brian Boitano and powered through the course for the good of traveling enthusiasts everywhere. Sneaking onto the course was an imperfect solution to this difficult dilemma. If at some point after reading my review you should decide to play the course, then I highly recommend making a reservation.

To sum it all up, this simple, private course has broken baskets and no navigational signage. I happened to be in the area for the Alabama 500 and thought I'd dabble in some disc golf. The property is scenic and I have no doubt that there COULD be an interesting course installed, but it would probably get in the way of other recreation activities. Had there been a review to warn me of the overall neglect and simplicity, I wouldn't have popped in to throw it.
