Pros:
South Central Park is a sprawling city property that includes basketball/tennis courts, walking trails, a water park, and much more.
It is also the site for North Ridgeville's first disc golf course!
+ As long as you come when the course is dry, this is an excellent place to introduce new players to the sport. Every hole is under 300 feet, with the only obstacles being scattered trees throughout the track.
+ Each hole is equipped with concrete tees, new Mach V baskets, and detailed tee signs.
+ Navigation flows very easily. There is neon tape on every basket to direct you towards the next tee.
+ There is a large parking area (yes, it's huge), as well as permanent restrooms nearby.
Cons:
- Out of the 151 previous reviews I've written up to date, there are very few that have the course conditions listed as a con. However with South Central, I feel like mud and standing water can be a problem year-round. The course is entirely flat with no real drainage system in place. This allows for several inches of standing water to accumulate across the fairways and around the baskets. It had been several days since any real rain, and a few holes were almost unplayable.
- More advanced players won't find much challenge here. There are no elevation changes or any holes over 300 feet.
- It's great that there are concrete tees, but they're on the shorter side. Players with longer run-ups will have to abbreviate that due to the steep edges around each box.
Other Thoughts:
Overall, I thought South Central Park hit its target audience; Newbies to the sport who can come out with two discs and have a good time.
Maybe the course will be more enjoyable in the summer when things dry out a little bit. In its current springtime state, it's a pain to play the full nine.
Despite some of the negatives, it's great to see North Ridgeville taking a leap into the disc golf scene!
