Southside (again)

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 21, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

I don't understand Southside Baptist's course at all. You've got a piece of land with six baskets in it and nothing else. What's up with that?
- This could be a fun, short layout. It's got good elevation factors. The baskets are spaced out. So, someone did some planning, but apparently, they forgot to share their plan with anyone else.
- It wouldn't be hard for someone to come in here, look at the holes, and set up a basic six-hole course. Or, even if you play to baskets more than once, an easy 9, 12, or 18-hole loop.
- Course has rolling hills throughout it. With the slope, you can play some good uphill or downhill holes.
- Without tees, make up your own layout. Can make up some fun holes for sure.
- Baskets were in decent shape. So, they've been put in some point recently.

Cons:

No tees or true holes, so isn't more than a glorified practice field at this point.
- Can't complain about basket locations without any idea of holes or tees.
- On UDisc, this is (or was) listed as a 9-hole course. There are only six baskets here. Not sure if there had been 3 additional ones, or counting wasn't someone's strong point.
- There's a parking lot in the park. However, if you park there, you'll likely be throwing over, or alongside, your vehicle. Park on the road alongside the church instead. Or better yet, park in the parking lot alongside 221.

Other Thoughts:

Southside Baptist could be a fun neighborhood course. Think Fewell Park in Rock Hill.
- It's weird the church hasn't done more with this land. Six baskets and that's it.
- This was the second course named Southside I played in the same day. Southside Park in Greenville was probably 30 minutes away. Most meaningless comment of the review.
- Based on the neighborhood, this area is going through some major gentrification. Based on the two people I came across while playing, they were originals.
- I think the simplest layout is to tee off alongside the corner of Spring and Carlisle. For every subsequent hole, play from basket to basket, with your final hole being the one alongside the parking lot. That's a simple, yet somewhat boring layout.
- Someone do everyone else a favor and make up a fun layout. You'll make the rest of us grateful.
