Pros:
- A full 18 hole course in a well kept park
- Great tee pads
- Detailed course map with all potential pins listed
- Informative tee signs with pin marker
- Pond and creek in play on many holes
- Practice basket at 1st tee
- Good use of space available
- Mowed fairways
- Multiple pins on each hole
Cons:
- Popular parks tend to be busy
- No numbers on baskets can be confusing at times
- Laramie is known to be windy...all..the..time!
- Much of the park has no shade
- Some holes may not be playable depending on park visitors
- Jumping across the creek can be sketchy in some places
Other Thoughts:
- Spring Creek is a full 18 hole course in a very large city park. It plays around the perimeter of the park, but brings the pond and creek that runs through the center into play on several holes. Half the park is dry grass but well kept, and half is in the nicer grassy areas.
- Many shots will bring the creek into play as you will be required to throw over, as well as along the length of the creek. A few others will have you throwing to a basket that is at the creeks edge forcing you to heed your distance. The creek was low, but it looks like it could run much higher at times. Many of the creek shots were my favorites.
- We started a bit before noon and the park was mostly empty. This changed quickly though as the park started to fill halfway through our round. Playing early is probably a good strategy.
- The tee signs are above average for most city parks I've played. All of the pin placement markers were accurate the day we played.
- My golf partner on this trip attended college here, and always spoke about how windy this area is. The wind didn't dissapoint on this trip either, and it remained quite breezy throughout our round with some strong gusts thrown in for good measure. I don't mind playing in the wind, but this can be a con for some players.
- Navigation 'shouldn't' be an issue, but we did get mixed up on one tee and had to come back after figuring out our route. One gripe I had was no numbers on the baskets. This would really help in finding your way around.
- This DGC has a town that cares about the maintenance. The fairways were mowed with well defined roughs, the baskets are in new condition and the tee pads are great. Disc loss should not be an issue here either since the rest of the park is also well kept. Nice job Laramie!
- Laramie is a pretty isolated town making this course a tough bag unless you're in the area. However I would be very happy to call this my home course. Wind can be a factor, as well as the popularity of the park and numbers on the baskets should be the next upgrade, but overall this is a fun round. If you are in Laramie, this is a must bag but a long drive for just about everyone else.
