Cons:

Not sure if this course is unfinished or if it's finished and just awful. I drove up (thankfully I was on vacation in the area) and found one basket, one teesign and thats all. There is no indication where to find the course, no indication where to start the course, nothing.

In talking with some of the Traverse City boys, I have found out that they offered to help to build this course to make it somewhat of a destination course (as the property is huge) but the reservation didn't want to remove trees or make huge alterations to the land. I was told that the woods holes are just random baskets placed in the woods with no real fairways. I played the ONE complete hole I could find that was pretty much it. Don't bother unless this course dramatically improves.

Unfinished or unfilled potential? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

This piece of property offers so much potential. The topography and mix of open holes and technical woods holes makes me wonder if this course is just still so new that it's not finished or if a perfect opportunity has been squandered.

Cons:

To begin with, there is no indication of where this course begins. The property is so expansive that it was an arduous task to attempt to find the 1st tee. The tee signs merely have a distance with no map of the hole or even direction of where the hole goes. I stood on the 11th tee (atop a small hill) and couldn't see the basket - literally I had 360 degrees of guessing. Then, if you do find the basket, good luck finding the next tee; especially if you're in the woods because there are no signs and not enough foot traffic to have worn down a path. The wooded holes have basically no shot lines; throw and pray.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this course is currently not worth the expedition required to attempt to play this... at least at this point. It seems like a waste of their money, time & efforts to have invested in 27 brand new baskets and signs to have made an unplayable course. Hopefully one day this course will properly mature and reach its potential so disc golfers on the peninsula can enjoy it.

Big Reservations 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 6, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

27 new DISCatcher baskets on a versatile piece of property that offers quite a bit of variety. The 9 holes that WERE playable were in an open field with some good topography and mowed fairways.

Cons:

No tee signs or tee pads. The folks who commissioned the course refused to pay the extra money for a designer, but instead bought an extra 9 holes. 18 of which were dropped in the woods without marking tees or clearing fairways, making them virtually impossible to find, let alone PLAY.
MOST of the open 9 holes were fairly easy to find because they were mowed, but many were 'tweeners', a bit on the longer side to effectively move the score.

A classic example of pride getting in the way of common sense. This COULD have been a fantastic course but ended up being a waste of 18 baskets.

Other Thoughts:

Far enough up the Leelanau peninsula that it definitely is NOT worth the trip, even if, like me, it was only to add one to the list.
