The woods community course

Reviewed: Played on:May 9, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Quiet, scenic wooded course with elevation change. Pads, signs, baskets and navigation are well done. All holed are dedicated to dg.
For a heavily forested tract, this new course has fair and fun lines.

Cons:

Many of the holes are to short for an advanced player. There are only two long uphill shots.

Other Thoughts:

The course is geared for beginners and intermediate level players. For that class of player, it's a great addition to NE Ohio. I would only play here with new players unless the holes were made longer.

I would like to see an extra basic on most of the holes. The room is there to extend the same lines. Hole 5 could have long tee pad. If the park allowed more holes, there is room for some solid shots.

Deceitful Name, Great Fun!

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 16, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

*This review was written on the first full day of the course being open. There are a few rough areas that will be broken in as the course accumulates traffic. More amenities will be added soon after this review.*

The Fields Memorial Park is an area that has been used for years to practice long drives (see the hill behind the practice basket in photos).

This is the first course located in a bit of a void for courses in Northeast Ohio. Being right on the edge of Cuyahoga Valley National Park and just minutes away from Valley View, there is plenty of steep elevation to both sight see, and eventually, climb.

This is 100% up there with the best 9-hole courses I've played to date.

+ At the course entrance, you are greeted with a beautiful view. This may be a little deceitful, as "The Fields" is played nearly entirely in the woods next to the beautiful open area.

+ There is plenty of parking and a practice area right by the parking lot and the first tee. The baskets are brand new DISCatchers, each sporting an easy-to-see blue band at the top. All tees are concrete, with more amenities coming soon after this review.

+ Every hole is carefully crafted and a ton of fun! Nearly every hole has a change in elevation (some that are VERY steep). It's a great mix between the varying elevations, short/longer holes, and hole shapes.

+ Navigation is simple for the most part. Many tees are very close to the previous basket (see cons as well).

+ I played three rounds, and each time I found a different line to the basket on several holes. Executing these routes will definitely improve your score, but they can be tricky to hit.

+ I really like how #9 opens up a bit to finish. The basket is guarded, but you'll have about a 300' open shot to set up the approach.

+ Overall, this is a technical course that will provide at least some challenge for more advanced players. It's also a great test of stamina, with multiple treks up and down a very steep hill.

Cons:

- A few holes play a little too close to each other. #5 and #6 are very close to sharing fairways. A couple of tees are also a little bit close to the previous basket. Had a couple of "fores" shouted my way on throws that really weren't all that errant.

- Due to the steep hills and heavy woods, some areas will be prone to very muddy conditions and standing water.

Other Thoughts:

After a 3-hole practice course was installed in Broadview Heights, it was only a matter of time before the city hopped on board with a full length track.

Despite only being nine holes, you'll leave The Fields feeling like you played a full 18. It's jam packed with fun, and a lot of steep hiking. Be prepared for the terrain.

Looking forward to seeing how this course improves over the next few years as it matures!
