Needs a little love

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 13, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

The bridge is washed out. Either walk up the road or cross by log to first tee. The white tees are missing on several holes . Such a fun course but has not seen love in a long time

Cons:

Getting to hole 1 is a challenge

Future Diamond 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 24, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Springs DGC in it's current state is a large chunk of coal, that over time, with pressure from a hardworking local club will for sure turn into a diamond.

The holes are very well designed, as the woods are carved out with fun shot shaping lines, with many different shots to throw after the initial tee shot. Some of my favorite shots to throw are wooded par threes like the ones on this course.

The baskets are very nice Mach V's, brand new and they catch very well, as well as very shiny and visible through the thick Pennsylvania foliage.

Navigation on this course is a breeze, with a multitude of next tee signs to get to the next hole and nice paths between basket and tee, getting lost is hard to do.

Cons:

The course is a work in progress.

There are no tee signs, no tee pads, no distances, just baskets and the flags to show where the natural tees are.

I put a lot on a course with a design standpoint, and this course is truly a great 9 holer, but it has a lot of work to be done.

The first thing to be done are the tee signs, because a lot of the holes are blind off the tee, and a map, as well as a distance would go a long way to help a first time player.

There are a lot of places where the rough is, well, rough. It needs to be whacked with some sharp things a little bit, so that way my precious legs don't get all cut up when I shank one 100 feet to the left.

The natural tee pads are not bad, but they need to be better. Over time, they will get sloppy, and slippery, which could make them dangerous as well.

Other Thoughts:

I teetered between a 2 and a 2.5, because I really want to see more amenities go in to the course.

However, the design is so well done, if you can get past the lack of amenities, this is really a great course. I can see a future where this course is a true top 9 holer, not only in PA but in the nation.

Kudos to the designer, keep it up. Just put a little more work into this and you have a real "gem" on your hands!

Rough Now, but Will Improve! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 29, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Once it's complete, it will be a very nice 9-holes. There aren't a ton of technical 9-hole courses, so this is definetly going to be a nice addition.

Technical holes playing through a dense wooded area. Some elevation changes come into play.

Three sets of tees for beginners, seasoned players, and professionals.

In a pretty isolated area of the park. Should have no issues with pedestrians.

Cons:

I have to rate it on how it is now. No signs or tee pads yet, and the fairways are pretty rough.

I got stung by a wasp for the first time in my life. Not sure if this is a common issue or just a one time occurrence.

Drainage is a little bit of an issue.

Natural tees

Other Thoughts:

This is a work in progress, so don't expect too much yet. Will only get better with time!

The Springs DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 8, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great use of the available acreage. The holes have a nice flow, with no confusion from pin to next tee. The topography of the land is showcased well, with elevation changes throughout the course. Tees (three sets) are well marked with flags. Nice and shady throughout (for those hot summer days).

Cons:

On the day I played, the vegetation was quite high (mostly may apples, poison ivy, virginia creeper, and ferns -- the undergrowth of old forests.) As it was quite recently forest, many of the holes had no clear "lines". As a novice, I'd say I hit a tree 2/3 throws. Maybe not a con, per se, but it has far more trunks/fairway than any of the other two dozen or so courses I've played.

Other Thoughts:

As this is a new course, I'm sure the cons listed above will be addressed. Mowing will be easier once many of the stumps are removed, and I'm sure trees will be selectively felled to clear up the fairways. (This is probably best done as a gradual practice, since you can't put them back!).

Needs seasoned a bit 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 26, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice 9 hole course close to Grove City Outlet Mall. Parking lot has lots of parking. Layout was well thought out with a variety of different shots needed to score well. Lanes are there for throwing but on some holes if not hit will make you have a bad day. A couple of the holes are ace runs and we're fun to play.

Cons:

This course is a little rough around the edges. With a little time this course should season in nicely. These things would improve the overall experience of the course:
*cement tee pads
*signage
*better drainage
*practice basket

Other Thoughts:

Overall this is not a bad little course. Once seasoned in and upgrades are in it will make it a lot nicer. Worth playing if your in the area. If you have a real long drive I would tell you to wait a couple years for seasoning and upgrades. Make sure if you do play it you PAY ATTENTION TO A MAP! You've been warned.

Nice New Layout In Mercer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

*Variety of terrain
*Variety of shots to be used
*Lots of Risk/Reward shots available
*3 Tee areas (RWB)
*Hole 3 is a doozy....also hole 6 is a legit par 5!

Cons:

-Still new, so its a bit rough around the edges. With some seasoning, it will only get better.

Other Thoughts:

Once the pond gets filled in, hole 1 will be the type of hole that delivers a gut punch from the very beginning! From white or Blue, First 150-200+ feet over water to wake ya up! Love it.

--The course is new, needs some seasoning and finishing touches, but it is a nice variety, good layout and offers people of every skill and ability to have a good time playing DG.
