I Was Warned... I Went Anyway 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 19, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

(0.320 Rating) A family friendly course that can also be used as a practice area for skilled players in the neighborhood.
- FORGIVENESS - Just about no hazards on this layout. There is an overgrown marshy area north of basket (5) and (6), but there's ample bail out area to avoid it. New players will have a good opportunity to work on distance.
- FAMILY FRIENDLY - A nice playground is right next to the park, so younger kids will have multiple things to do here in addition to this beginner friendly layout.
- QUICK PLAY - With 5 baskets left, someone could probably run a round in 10 minutes.
- MOWED - I would expect regular mowing here considering it's a school. The grass was less than 6 inches high when I played during summer break.

Cons:

Knowing that my half disc rating is probably too generous.
- LACK OF INVESTMENT - I knew this place was going to be bad coming in. Although not train wreck level, it's close. The investment into the course feels like a big flip'n zero. 4 years prior, the report was it was down to 8 baskets... well slap me silly and call me Shirley cause that important factor is now down to a pitiful 5! A few may argue that this is not even a course anymore. Well I'd disagree. Mainly due to the numbering of the baskets... and the fact that there are 5 baskets here... and that the fact that I don't want to feel guilty calling this a bagged course ;) and I don't by the way, I played all 5 of them here.
- UNDEFINED CHALLENGE - To no surprise, this former 9 basket now 5 basket course doesn't have marked tees. Thus rating the challenge for this course is limited. For my review, I've rated the challenge by going basket to basket starting by missing basket (3). The only sure way to find it is to look at a satellite photo which shows it 140 feet west of home plate of the small baseball field. Anyways, Advanced players would be unsatisfied throwing anything other than all birds. There are obviously numerous ways to throw a round here, but every course could say the same thing. Safari possibilities don't affect how I rate a course's challenge factor.
- NO AMENITIES AND EXTRAS - Baskets, yes, but no other disc golf related bonus amenities. Core basics like tee signs and tee pads are missing. The baskets are numbered however, this is how I'm positive that this was once a nine. The baskets are not a brand that I am familiar with. I think they may be school shop made.
- HOLE VARIETY - They really don't get much more vanilla than this one. All five remaining shots have zero trees in play. The only play hazard is the marshy thicket along the north boundary of the layout and it won't even register as a concern to skilled players.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - Not an eyesore, but not a beautiful parcel of land. I slotted it into my bottom 15 out of 513 courses played as of this review. There is nothing naturally beautiful along this layout. Open fields with houses and school buildings constantly in view. The tall grass preserve areas along the north boundary are what keeps this place outside of my bottom 10. To end on a positive note, it was mowed and I saw no trash.
- WIND - Due to the lack of trees, wind will likely be an issue here

Other Thoughts:

I haven't been to too many worse places. With the course now being well shy of the nine basket threshold, i think it's time for them to either sell or buy replacements. Preferably sell, cause imo, there is not much to the landscape that the course graces, which is basically one large open field. If the course could utilize some surrounding areas more, I think a much higher rating is achievable. Five open field shots is just not going to cut it in many people's rankings as is. This place reminds me of the worst course in my current town of Huntsville Alabama. Which is also a course in an open field, but with one tree in play instead of zero here. That course also has 6 DISCatcher baskets instead of the five home-made baskets left here. I have rated these two courses essentially the same, although Traeger is rated a touch worse on my ledger. For both courses, the only usefulness is the fact that players within a couple miles can get field work in went time is short.

Pros:

There are 8 baskets currently at this course. Basket 3 is gone. The baskets are homemade with a single row of chains. All mounted only about a foot off the ground which is fine since it's an elementary school. The course will never be busy during non school hours. Grass was mowed and the course was clean.

Cons:

Basket #3 is gone making it only an 8 hole course. Really nothing in the way of obstacles. A couple trees between 1 and 2, that's about it. No elevation or water. Nothing real exciting just another school course in an open field.

Other Thoughts:

Only for course baggers. Nothing at all to go out of your way to play. If you for some reason do have to play here like me, park in the west lot as that's where hole 1 is located closest to. It will be north of the west lot and plays counter clockwise with 9 ending back by this lot.

Field work/bagger course only 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 baskets

Someone got some experience in metal working to create the baskets.

Cons:

Basket to basket design in a field; around school property.

No obstacles.

Other Thoughts:

Signs on baskets tops says 2010 for the basket building project; so this one may have been around prior to 2013.

Baskets to throw at, is never a bad thing. Otherwise though; nothing redeeming about this course.

Holes are probably too long for elementary students... I would say most holes, basket to basket, would be about 200 feet average.

As with most course of this type. If desired, you could create some safari holes that would at least be field work style play; and I'm sure you would have the place to yourself.

Baskets are not standard height. They're not way off, but many a slightly low; and a few leaning a bit. Design is slightly off from traditional baskets as well, but not much.
