Pros:
I played four years ago and wrote a rather scathing review. Four years previously, after being rejected by some office lady, I snuck onto the course on a lousy, rainy day and was not impressed. I basically snuck on again this afternoon and observed a few more positives than before. The course is still a below average Christian Camp course which plays dangerously close to by buildings, cars, campers and most everything else here. The tee pads are still natural with only a front board. The layout is still convoluted. The signs are still minimal and the baskets are still single chained Discatchers which are now painted this popular orange shade of coral/tangerine.
But once you decipher the navigation, you'll be treated to a couple of fun little holes. I liked # 1 which plays to a basket tucked a very large Fir tree which these incredibly large low, root like appengiages. It makes for a fun little upshot or putt. I also liked # 2 which plays maybe 260' to a basket tucked in behind a large bush. This basket can be reached by two route similarly, narrow routes. # 3 was another cool little hole. The basket is set up between two large bushy areas with a decent sized tree blocking the direct and easier route. I was able to play # 4 but just minutes later, it would have proven to be unplayable with a group of kids playing just in front of the basket.
I was forced to skip # 5, # 6 and # 7 due to campers in the way. 5 & 6 both looked like cool holes, too. # 7-8-9 are all basic open 275' holes without much opposition.
Cons:
This is mostly unplayable when campers are present. Today, I was forced to skip three holes and just barely got # 4 played. A couple of others involve firing your disc into dangerous blind spots.
Natural pads but they really aren't a problem as I don't believe this course gets much play.
I don't know if the local camp gestapo are as unwelcoming as they were four short years ago. And if they are, I can understand why. This camp course and discgolfers probably don't mix well.
Holes 7-8-9 are standard issue wide open throws.
Other Thoughts:
While more impressed today, the businesses of this camp is not a good recipie for cooperative, safe disc golfer-camper interaction. If I lived locally, I would only play her at off-peak hours. Skipping 1/3 of the holes due to campers being in the way really detracts from the experience here. Maybe when school is in session would be the better time to play this course. Sorry, but I kind of wanted to come to the Oregon coast when the weather is nicer. Pick your poison boys!
