Pros:

- Wakarusa Memorial is a neat little niner tucked behind the local school and splash pad. The course plays through a large grassy area dotted with large pine and smaller deciduous trees, climbs the best scrap of elevation (a grassy, bare hill) for three good holes (#'s 5, 6, & 7) before crisscrossing a flat, mostly open area to end up back at the parking area.
- Outstanding use of elevation for a school niner. Hole #5 throws from a flat section of the walking path up the side of the hill. Then hole #6 throws from the other side of the hill, off the walking path as well, to the crown of the hill. Hole #7 throws off the top for a satisfying bomber shot. The fact that the rest of the course is flat doesn't detract from the fun so much when they give you the best elevation available.
- Great use of the trees on hole #'s 2, 3, & 4.
- Decent tee signs, smallish, but visible enough from a distance to help the course flow effortlessly. Elevation loss and gain is listed on each, which is a nice little bit of information, especially with the big hill prominently in play. New Prodigy baskets which look great and catch even better. Tees are mixed, with some holes incorporating the asphalt walking path. A white line demarks the front of the asphalt tees. The others are natural grass/dirt. All were in good shape and did not detract from the round, although some of the natural tees could become rutted over time, especially if school kids in gym class give it a regular go-around.

Cons:

- This is the rare school niner where there isn't much to gripe about. In fact, I thought this course did a pretty darn good job of presenting a solid beginner-to-rec level course, with enough fun and challenge to keep INT players interested for at least one play-through. Definitely a fun course to hit for bagging purposes: it's a fast, easy, straight-forward course to play, but fun enough that two rounds wouldn't be out of the question. I'd say the biggest issue would be the hill, which is a bit on the crowded side with two baskets and a tee atop it. This would mostly come into conflict with a gym class full of students, rather from regular everyday play. I've definitely seen a lot worse, so this is pretty nit picky.
- The walking path looks to get moderate use, as does the splash pad, so pedestrian traffic would probably be the biggest issue here.
- After the downhill shot (#7), the next two holes (#'s 8 & 9) don't offer a whole lot other than a way to get back to the parking lot.

Other Thoughts:

-Yes! This is what a typical school niner should look like. Administrative peoples in schools everywhere please take note. Well done, Wakarusa Memorial, well done.
