Pros:
The course is in a small park, beside a school, but kept away from other activities. Two nice concrete pads and two Black Hole/Black Hole Portal, yellow and black, baskets per hole. These baskets are quite nice and caught every putt that they should have. The 9 holes begin and end close to the parking lot. Hole #5 also finishes back close to the parking lot.
Holes #1-6 play on a long, gently sloping hill and take good advantage of the limited elevation change on the property. Holes 7-9 play on the other side of a small creek and also use the little bit of elevation available there. Most tee shots are either somewhat up or down hill, with only a few basically level.
The course plays mainly around scattered shrubs and smallish trees with a lot of open area in-between. The creek could easily come into play on #7 as you have to hit gaps through trees while going over the creek.
The dual tees do a pretty good job of changing up the holes, with most of the long tees having different routes or added doglegs vs. the shorts. A couple, more or less, seem to just add length. Four or five of the different basket locations do a good job of making the holes play differently, too. There are predominantly straight and left turning throws required off the tees.
Cons:
When I played it had been raining a couple days earlier and a few of the holes paid the price. Fairway #1 was under water. Grass was coming up through the water, but it was a mess. The lower end of hole #2 and #5 were also soaked. Hopefully dryer weather will take care of this.
The biggest issue, which will depend on maintenance, is the fairways. On almost all of the holes, the fairway was a 10-15' wide grassy area, cut into the surrounding grass, weeds, and shrubs. When I played, most holes weren't too thick off of the fairways, but thick enough to be a small hassle looking for most tee shots. Some areas of the brush lining the fairways are pretty thick, though. I could easily see lost discs and long searches being common here.
Other Thoughts:
The course and I, admittedly, got off to a rough start. After walking down the fairway towards my tee shot on #1, the water forced me to walk a long way around to find a reasonable path to the basket. Again, once dry, multiple holes would instantly become more enjoyable.
The selection of black vs yellow basket placements somewhat confused me. It seems that about half of each color basket is the short/easier position with the others being the opposite. This just seemed odd.
I didn't make note of the hole lengths, but there is a good variety. A couple are very short (<200'), while some are true bomber holes (>500').
I would probably go back again, if in the area, to really see the variety offered by the 4 available layouts. I would think that most players would be able to find something fun about the course. If I get to play it again, I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up moving my rating from 2.5 to 3.
