Pros:

Simple, no frills, DG done right in a small community park.
• Variety: Decent - holes range from sparsely to moderately wooded, with many actually requiring you to shape a line. Mix of L, R, and straight shots. Range of distances is typical for beginner friendly niner. Reds range from 139 - 253 ft. Whites range from 195 to 391 ft. A few holes are blind or nearly blind from the tee (more so the whites), but nothing difficult to figure out.

• Elevation: Completely flat.

• Challenge: Reasonable - Red tees are well-suited to introduce people to the game. White tees have just enough meat on the bone to keep more experienced players engaged and entertained. Most of the reds are pretty straight shots, with a few requiring some shape. The whites definitely require some defined shot shaping along with reasonable distance to score well. Won't pose a serious challenge players rated 850+, but they'll still have still have some fun here. The rough is dense enough that bogies are possible if shots get away from you.

• Equipment: Reasonable - Dual, natural tees are OK at this point. Tees are clearly marked with simple red or white posts approx. 6" tall, on both sides of the teeing area. Markers show hole #, distance, and basic shape of hole. New original Chainstars complete the scene.

• Aesthetics: Reasonable - Nothing special, but the lake itself is clearly visible directly across the street, which is by far the course's most aesthetically appealing feature. Park is clean and maintained, but not much else to see here. (see cons).

• Fun-Factor: Decent - Should be a fun place for beginners, without excessive opportunity for lost discs. While I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, I did find shot shaping from the whites to be a fun round trying to card birdies.

• Routing/Nav: Very Good - After each basket is a red sign with a white arrow pointing toward the next tee. The brightly colored tee markers let you know when you've arrived. The "trickiest" part is locating the basket on some of the curvier white holes, but even that's pretty straightforward.

Cons:

Mostly limited by what this course was meant to be: a beginner friendly course and something for people in the immediate community to enjoy.

• If not for the buzz killing road noise, the park would be peaceful. I'm not gonna slam it, but don't come here expecting some beautiful, serene, nature walk.

• Low lying ground holds water, so it's pretty muddy after it rains.

• More informational than a "con" per se: first few holes are open enough that wind can be a factor. #'s 5-8 are close enough that the hwy actually shelters them from most wind.

Other Thoughts:

Whomever designed this pretty much did the best you could hope for, using the available land.

Never meant to challenge experienced players, or be some "must play" destination. Only 10 minutes from Independence Lake, and maybe 15-18 min from Hudson Mills... both of which are suitable for A-Tier sanctioned events. If you're looking to plan a DG outing, those two parks are where you should spend your time. But if you still want to throw after playing those, you could do worse than stopping here to shape lines from the whites, or run Aces from the reds.

While Whitmore Lake is reasonably well-executed, and doesn't have any major issues, it just a bit less that your "typical" course ... which isn't a crime. Plus, it truly fills a glaring DG void in the immediate area, as the nearby courses aren't beginner friendly. In that respect, it's a Home Run.

Would I like better tees? Sure, but I don't see the natural tees holding this course back, nor would concrete tees change my rating.

Great for beginners, baggers, and those who live in the immediate area looking for a quick, fun round.

Walking distance from Whitmore Lake Tavern - good food with views of Whitmore Lake.

** Update: Upon further reflection, I revised my rating from 2.5 to 2.0. Not to say that there's a problem, but I feel the need to convey it's a notch below other courses I've rated at 2.5. 2.0 just "feels" more accurate. Still stand behind all my comments.**
