Reviewed: Played on:Apr 1, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Well designed course, great mix of woods and open.
- Challenges all types of shots
- Course is only used for disc golf (minus a few walking trails.)
- Tee pads and baskets are great.
- Navigation is helped with arrows.

Cons:

- Some gaps could use some trimming/more play on them.
- Very limited parking space.

Other Thoughts:

Great course for casual and competitive play. One of the best courses in Door County!

Surprisingly Good drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Tee pads are in good shape. The tee signs are helpful for the most part with a couple exceptions. There are also enough technical holes mixed with very open holes. Very little concern with losing discs in the grass, though I did on a really bad throw that took a bad bounce off a tree.

Cons:

I'm not sure it's possible but mowing some of the fairways would be a nice touch.

Almost ready for prime time! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 24, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Bailey's Harbor DGC is located about 3/4 of the way up the scenic Door Peninsula in northeastern Wisconsin. The parking lot for the course is shared with a dog park, but the course stays on the opposite side of the parking lot from that. The only other attraction here appears to be some signed ORV trails running past the back of the course.

There are now 18 holes here, and a good mix at that. The front nine plays mostly through a meadow area. I would call these holes "semi-open". They aren't wide open, but the fairways are pretty wide with just a few scattered trees to contend with. The newer back nine is mostly tighter and shorter, forcing more shot shaping. I think there was pretty good variety between left-turning, right-turning, and straight holes.

The distances are approachable for new players, but still nothing to sneeze at for intermediate level disc'ers. There is no distance signage at the course yet, but someone had entered in distances here for the front nine. I took a stab at estimating the back nine. I think the holes range from about 150' to about 350', with many in the 200'-250' range.

The baskets are brand new, red white and blue Dynamic Discs Veteran models. Beautiful. Hole 18's basket is elevated on a pedestal. I believe there is also a practice basket, but it isn't signed and is hidden from view in the parking lot so I am not 100% sure. To find what I think is the practice basket, find hole 1's tee then turn around (180 degrees) and walk 50' or so.

Since the previous reviews were written, directional signage has been added! It takes the form of white arrows attached to the bottom of each basket, and additional little wood posts with more arrows where needed. There was only one time early in the round (I think it was hole 2 to 3) where I had to scout around for a minute to find the next tee pad. After that I didn't have any trouble navigating and did not have to use UDisc.

Cons:

Although this course has improved a lot since some of the earlier reviews were written, it still does not appear to be quite a finished product. Some of the things that are missing are:
- Real tee signs (currently there is just a short white painted wood post with hole number). The distances and maps would be nice here especially with many blind holes.
- Kiosk/course map.
- Benches/trash cans at tees.
- Steps to the elevated hole 18 basket.
- Porta potty.

Hole 15 does not appear to be done yet. There is still quite a bit of brush piled on the fairway, and the basket (for this hole only) is a portable white Patriot model. A couple of the other back 9 holes still had some debris as well.

The tee pads right now are large green pieces of carpet, on beds of gravel. All 18 of these are now in place and they are flat-ish and new, so adequate for now. Long term, concrete pads would still be an improvement.

If this course starts to get popular, parking is going to be an issue. There is barely a parking lot now, you just kind of pull off the little dirt drive.

Most of the items above could be addressed, and maybe there is already a plan to address them. But there are also some shortcomings of the land available. The course is pretty much flat, and has no other hazards like water, etc. to spice things up. There aren't really any memorable holes, except for maybe the raised basket on #18. The aesthetic is nice, but there aren't any awe-inspiring or unique views to take in. Driving up the hill from WIS-57, I was hoping that there would be some views of Lake Michigan from the course. No such luck. There is plenty of road noise from WIS-57 though.

The rough was starting to thin out when I played. Discs could probably be lost in it in the summertime.

There was quite a bit of wind when I played, not sure if that is unusual or just has to do with the course being located at the top of a hill.

Other Thoughts:

After starting my day at Silver Creek Park in Manitowoc and with rain a few hours away in the forecast, I decided to spend the rest of the afternoon driving up the Door Peninsula and back. As it turned out, the rain held out for a few hours and I was able to stop at Bailey's Harbor and play this course. I was pleasantly surprised by what I found here. It's not a destination course by any means, but it's definitely now better than the current average on here and it looks like more improvements are forthcoming. With the controllable items above addressed, this is a solid 3.0 or 3.5 course.

If you are exploring the Door Peninsula, this course is a good option to stretch your feet and get a round in. You could bring non-DGers here and they would probably still enjoy walking around the pine forests and meadows with you.

Edit: I wanted to take a second and thank the previous reviewer, badgerbrarian. Your recent positive review (first DGCR review!) was a large part of why I chose to stop at this course. Thank you for writing it, and I hope to see more reviews like that from you in the future! For the rest of you, scroll and check out that review too if you haven't thumbed it up already.

Good course that could be great 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Good variety of shots required (majority RHBH but several pretty obvious forehand and turnover tee shots)
- Nice mix of shorter to mid-length holes with both technical and more open shots
- Most fairways pretty well-manicured and defined
- Course was quite pretty; nice hike through a mix of open clearings and pine forest
- Logical course flow that starts and loops back close to parking lot
- Newly installed turf tee pads on holes 1-7
- For a wooded course, there were surprisingly few bugs!

Cons:

- Signage severely lacking; no course map or tee signs at all yet (using the UDisc map is basically required right now, but with that it's pretty easy to follow)
- Some holes require backtracking the fairway to get to the next tee
- Permanent tees yet to be installed on holes 8-18
- Mostly permanent baskets, but some holes still have temp baskets
- Almost no elevation change so a lack a variety in that regard
- Weeds in the rough are pretty bad; chance for lost discs is high
- Wastewater treatment facility right next door makes a few holes smelly
- Limited parking (if the dog park or the course are busy, it's gonna get full really fast)

Other Thoughts:

- This course is just going to get better and better. Only 2 years old and recently expanded from 9 to 18 holes. Turf tee pads were in process of being installed (1-7 looked brand new and turf and frame were waiting on the side of hole 8 ready to be installed). Stopped in at Door Disc Golf, the brand new local disc golf shop in Fish Creek, and overheard the owners talking about the work they were doing to improve the course (like tee pads and signs).
- Once this course gets popular, the shared parking with the dog park could be an issue. At first, I drove over to the Recreational Park nearby thinking that was where I was supposed to start. I feel like it could maybe work if they put the course map and info sign and a practice basket near the woods east of the rec park and then cut a trail through to hole 1's tee pad. Be quite a bit of work, obviously, but would add a lot of visibility to the course and make parking less of an issue.

Improved; Still Just Ok

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 12, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- challenging wooded and prairie areas
- narrow fairways and obstacles force shot placement
- mostly dedicated area for disc golf
- expanded to 18 holes
- navigation is improved
- turf tees have been added
- some next tee signs
- permanent baskets have been installed

Cons:

- tee signs are still temporary
- no course map
- baskets are not numbered
- navigation is much improved from a few years ago but still is a bit confusing
- fairway on hole 15 is unrealistically narrow; too much reliability on luck vs. skill
- directions to course are a bit confusing
- near fenced dog run so some people use course for walking dogs
- wastewater treatment plant next to course has a slightly unpleasant odor

Other Thoughts:

UPDATES 8/23:

I returned to the Bailey's Harbor DGC, now Wild Berry Fields DGC. The course has improved immensely since I last visited, so my rating has increased from 1 to 2.5. Honestly, I still don't love this course. I think some of that is my own subjective opinion, and the property has a fair amount of potential, but I just don't really enjoy playing this course for whatever reason.

I think two of the main reasons are that there are still navigation issues, despite next tee signs being added and this being immensely improved. In addition, the rough on some of the back 9 holes is really rough and thorny and gets tiresome after awhile. The layout of this course seems a bit chaotic.

The permanent baskets, turf tees, and expansion to a full 18 holes make this course much improved. Some permanent tee signs instead of the laminated, deteriorating papers would definitely improve it a bit more. This is the only 18 hole course in the upper part of the Door County peninsula currently, and it's respectable enough to play a round at. For me, I'd rather make the drive down to Sugar Creek County Park in Gardner, WI which is a far superior course.

__________

I want to like this course but it barely qualifies as a course right now. There are so many problems. I'm all for multiple tee placements if they are documented. These baskets are on wheels so I'm concerned even if this course was better documented it might change and not be updated. I also worry about theft since it didn't look like these baskets were attached to anything.

The biggest issue with this course is confusion and navigation. There are no tees and no tee signs, just stakes with a hole number and length. These only continued until Hole 7 as far as I could tell. I gave up when I couldn't figure out where 8 and 9 started. Arrows in the basket generally pointed to the next tee which helped but since the baskets can be moved around this isn't especially dependable.

To add to the confusion it looks like more than 9 baskets have been added. Some play through the woods and look like they would be fine but I couldn't find the tees for any of these. The baskets are not numbered so it's super confusing what goes with what. I could see this course potentially being a 3 disc course if they made some basic improvements.

Directions said to park at the end of the lot, turns out they meant the gravel drive next to the dog run. I wouldn't call this a lot so I ended up parking by the baseball field in the actual lot. This works if you want over to the course on the other side of the water treatment plant but you'll end up around the end of Hole 2.

Unfortunately, I found this course too frustrating to enjoy much. There is definitely some challenge due to the technical nature of parts of this course and a lot of potential for a fun course. There are high risk areas to lose discs in rough as well. I'd love to see this course improved but wouldn't come back until some infrastructure was added. I recommend checking out the nearby Jacksonport course instead.

No signs no tees just baskets 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are baskets in some trees sprinkled randomly. At least there are baskets. That is all the good things I have to say.

Cons:

There are no tee pads. There are no signs. You just see baskets (portables) sprinkled through some trees. Not worth your time.

Other Thoughts:

Awful. Go to Jacksonport or Sister Bay instead if you are in Door County.

Interesting holes, lacking in Infrastructure 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

- It is a disc golf course in Door County
- It is (with the exception of Sugar Creek, although that course is much more dependent on luck) the hardest course in Door County. The other 9-hole courses have much more open shots, however this course is not so. It will reward a good line and punish a bad one. Furthermore, the lines are at times narrow and demanding.
- Patriot baskets. They are temp baskets, however they could be a whole lot worse.

Cons:

General lack of infrastructure:
- No tee pads
- Uninformative tee signs
- Portable baskets
- The fairways are not well kept. It was obvious when we were there that the course had not been mowed in a while, due to the tall flowering weeds populating the fairways, however the grass itself was not tall, so this was not an absolute dealbreaker.
- No direction from hole to hole. Apparently there were signs directing players from the basket to the next tee stick, however we did not see these on most of the holes.

Other Thoughts:

USE UDISC if you have it. Someone has mapped the course, so this saved us as far as getting from hole to hole. For some reason Hole 9 was not mapped, however there is really only one path leaving Hole 8 so not the biggest concern.

I wish there was a way to give these people money. This course is obviously a big work in progress, and the fact that we now have 3 new courses in Door County in the last couple of years shows their dedication. With some proper TLC this course would be my favorite on the peninsula, but until they get teepads, better signage, manicure the fairways, etc I will frequent the other courses in the area. I am really hoping that I can come back to this course in a year or two and see some improvement, because as I said in the pros I found these shots to be the most interesting/challenging in the area.

Lots of Potetnttial 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

A lot more variation than other courses in the area. Good mix of holes and has a lot of potential. With some TLC this course will be one of the best courses on the peninsula.

Cons:

Hard to find all the different tee areas and the course can eat a disc or two unless you play with a buddy or have amazing accuracy.

Other Thoughts:

having an indicator to the next tee would help this course tremendously.

Baileys Harbor 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 9, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

9 Hole Course for now. Yardage's are as follows: 1=180, 2=270,3=300, 4=240,5=210,6=330,7=375,8=330,9=375
Signage is on the tee posts. Orange tape on basket indicates direction of next hole.

Cons:

This course is too short. First 6 holes can be duced and thus way to easy. 7,8 and.9 are more challenging. Five of the holes are set up for RHBH throwers, three are straight and one is LHBH.
The course is rough so wear boots and long pants. No bathrooms yet.

Other Thoughts:

This course has plenty of room to be lengthened and made tougher.
