Open, prairie course that will get better with age 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Mostly open shots set in a tallgrass prairie. Hole 4 in particular is a unique, S winding Par 5. There are a couple of tight window shots that provide a little challenge. The baskets are brand new, tee pads are adequate, and signage is accurate. It took me a lap around the course to find Hole 1, but after that, navigation is straightforward. The fairways were cut short and seemed well maintained. The overall natural aesthetic of the area is pleasing; it's quiet and peaceful out there. Alongside the course is a beautiful lake with a few lookout decks sprinkled in. There's undoubtedly very little foot traffic at this out-of-the-way location so it's ideal if you need somewhere to practice.

Cons:

First and foremost, the rough is waist high or better on nearly every hole. An errant shot could cost you quite a bit of time searching for a disc. The course could use more seating. Adding obstacles would go a long way. Some of the tee pads are oddly positioned, angling away from the basket.

Other Thoughts:

This is a beginner/amateur friendly course. I noticed a few trees were recently planted and those will add some variety to the mostly open fairways once they've matured. I'd definitely recommend using a spotter or bright colored discs when throwing, and even then, it's possible to lose sight of where it lands. The grass and bushes gobble up discs.

For experienced players, this is a forgettable course with little challenge. I consider it a welcome addition to the area if you're looking to try a new 9 holer.
