Pros:
- Good as a quick warmup
- Free to play with the actual course
Cons:
- The baskets
- Very rough
- Entirely comprised of pitch and putt holes
- Catastrophic level of biting insects
- No real teepads (not that you need them)
- Navigation is tricky in spots as the signs are lacking in quality and specifics.
Other Thoughts:
While the Woods at Beauty Hill is wonderful, the Bobcat adds very little to the place as a standalone course (which is how I will be reviewing it - keep that in mind). The old, thick chained baskets that were so universally loathed on the main course have been put to use as the targets for the 18 forty to eighty foot holes that have been carved out here. The Bobcat is positioned in a low, swampy, heavily wooded area, and as such the rough is very thick and the mosquitos (which are persistent yet bearable on the main course) come in vast, bloodsucking swarms. The holes themselves are fairly well balanced (for holes this short) and do provide a decent warm up before battling through the tight lines of the Lynx course. I can't see anyone showing up to just play the Bobcat, so it shouldn't be seen as a detriment to the place as a whole. It's good to see that effort is going into adding to and keeping Beauty hill up to speed with the many new and awesome courses in the southern Maine and NH area, and the new, even tougher full length course in the works promises to be a bruiser. Basically, as a standalone, the Bobcat is subpar at best. Seen as what it is, an extra bonus and warmup for the Lynx, there's nothing wrong with it per se, but it feels rather forced nonetheless. Play it if you're there already, preferably before the real round begins.
