Pros:
+The first thing that needs to be noted about this course is the beauty of this piece of land/park. It is on the edge of Denison, IA. It is hilly, mixture of prairie and woods, lots of big trees and wildlife. Excellent place to put a disc golf course. There is a nice campground, nice paved trail around the lake/reservoir in the middle of the park, nature center (open pretty limited hours), shelters, bathrooms, water fountain near hole 1, etc. Great park.
+The baskets are nice and new as of last year. All in good shape and caught well.
+Signage is full color and excellent. Navigation is ok, will have some notes in the cons.
+Lots of elevation that is used well. Some valley type shots, a big downhill, fast greens, a few light uphills.
+Signature hole #3 that is over 700ft and a huge downhill. Stop and snap a photo up here.
+Big concrete pads.
+This course favors bigger arms but has a few shorter, more technical holes as well. Good balance here overall.
Cons:
-A few of the holes have either too tight or slightly unnatural shapes. Hole #4 maybe has a local line but it is just too tight of an S curve. Very challenging hole. Hole #6 is also slightly too tight for my preference but it is short enough that you might get lucky and find your way through.
-This is one of those courses that look to have enough land and could likely house 18 nice holes. I would love to see it.
-At least one of the holes (#2) had inaccurate distances. It said over 400ft and I put my disc far too close to the basket for that distance.
-A few of the walks from basket to next tee were a little tedious. 3 to 4 comes to mind. Maybe there was something that I missed but You have to walk through the gap in the trees, past the shelter and parking lot and find the tee on the other side of the lot.
-The tall grass along many fairways is a nightmare for finding discs. It is hard to note exactly where your disc went in and the fairways are relatively narrow for the distances required. I didn't lose any discs but added a few minutes of searching on hole 2,3, and 9.
-Grass on the fairway of the first few holes was slightly longer than I like. It's nitpicky and they are probably trying to balance the budget, nature issues, and disc golf so I understand why they might let it go a bit long.
Other Thoughts:
+Overall, this course is a lot of fun. It's much better than I expected out of a course near Denison, IA. I will try to stop here again, maybe to camp and enjoy the whole park more. Would definitely recommend this course.
+If this course were 18 holes and a few of the issues were addressed, I could see this being a 4 disc course. The land here is excellent and they have a great start.
