I was given a disc from another player that clearly has someone else's initials and # on it. I have no idea how long this other player has had it, but on receiving it, I decided to do the right thing and call. I only got a voice mail and left a message.

My question is this: How long does one traditionally wait for a call back before claiming at one's own?

ps...is CJM from Michigan on here ;)?

If you really wanted it you would have subconsciously mis dialed by a number to ensure there would be no call back.

Actually, I do really want it, but it's a little too heavy for me right now. If it was in the 150-165 range, that'd be a different story

Was the disc given to you under the pretense they had bought it or they had found it. If they had bought it, keep it, if they had found it, maybe you shouldnt be accepting discs from someone who is clearly not calling people back when they find a disc.

I would call the first day I found it, and leave a voicemail. I usually wait between 3-5 days to try again. If they don't answer the second time, and don't call back that same night, I claim it as mine (and throw it if I like it, or lend it to friends that don't have discs when they play with me). If I hear from them after that, I'll give it back if I still have it.

I would just start using it. If they call back fine. If not and you lose it let someone else worry about getting it back to them.

Then again I held onto a disc for 8 months for a guy. He did call back right away and lived out of state. Luckily he was playing our annual tournament.

Make sure first that your friend did find it. Your friend might have traded for it, or it could have been given to him by someone else. my putter was one that a friend of mine found, and we have both called the phone number on the back with no response. So if your friend did find it, then call the number a couple times, but feel free to use it while you wait. especially if it's a disc you've never thrown before. It's always great to throw a different disc and see how it flies.

One week. Two calls.

Everyone needs to try at least twice before they claim it. Even if you do want it, somebody else bought it. However if your buddy who gave it to you already called or bought it, then it is fair game.

My understanding is that it was found and not called on. Friend got "the look" (evil eye) on that, fosho .

Be assured that I've thrown it a few times, already I'm just trying to be a good DG citizen.....I KNOW I'd want this one back!

I say call twice. Once to leave a voicemail and a second time right after leaving the voicemail to assure you dialed correctly. The second call would not be needed if the disc has "Jon Bon Jovi" written on the disc right above the number and when you call that number the answering machine said, "You have reached the home of Jon Bon Jovi, please leave a message." If they don't call back in a week, it's yours. And you have Jon Bon Jovi's autograph (kind of). Put it up on Ebay and rock on. Or keep it and Roc on (if it's a Roc).

Ah just buy yourself one in the right weight! I'm sure it can't cost that much right? Everyone needs to be spoiled.

If it is a factory stamp or just an off the shelf disc... it is far less of a big deal, imho.

If the disc has many aces written on the disc (some of us sign discs, not baskets) or if the disc is a CE roc with a USDGC stamp or some other big shot exotic event... then perhaps it has that "special" thing going on-- otherwise it really is small potatoes, IMHO.

Most of us do what we can to return discs. Good for you for being one of those folks.

I think the thing to remember is these things are plastic. They might have been a milk jug.
I do not really get all that emotionally attached to plastic. That is just my perspective. MMV
