So I know this has been asked time and time again...but im trying to figure out what are good discs to get for my girl...she is wanting to slowly get into it with me becuase I asked her to and its good exercise and she wants to start running with me so im trying to give her an alternative haha....but anyways, I have a 150g cobra for her now..its a DX disc and she wants to make them "pretty" so she wants me to dye them...but I don't wanna go blowing a bunch of money on champion discs she won't like...so what are some good discs to try out? 150g valk is one of them I was thinking...or should I just stick with midranges and putters first?

Get her a Leopard and a gateway died HPP wizard or something.

Also I would let her feel/try some 150 and higher discs...just 'cause shes a chick doesn't mean she wants or needs 150.

Polaris LS is a good starter disc too...our friend's wife threw about 100' normally and could easily get out to 150' with a Polaris she found.

yeah I know...we have a few high price disc shops around here that im gonna take her too...nothing well known just like little shops that carry discs as an extra lol....shes only thrown a few times in my backyard and a few of those when she actually tried got out to about 120'

2nd on the Leopard, but be prepared for her to grab them and decide she wants a Destroyer or Flick or some other overstable monster because she thinks it is pretty or feels good in her hand.

Have been going through this with my fiance and if you want her to play and keep playing, just let her do what she wants and answer questions when she asks. Also, take it easy on the positive re-enforcement. Get going on that too much and she will think she is being treated like a puppy whoe went outside to pee for the first time.

I went beyond disc advise here, but just letting you know where my experiences have been so you know what to expect.

I second the second part:). I was "dumb" and got my fiance a 175g coyote. she could throw it well at first (of course she couldn't throw much well at first) but after a couple of months it's now her favorite disc. Light discs are not mandatory, especially if she has any sports background.

The Leopard is also a great disc.

she has no sports background haha....and I tell her how it is...if she sucks ill let her know :p thats why she loves me so much...becuase I don't ice the cake...I will when the time is right but if its not that good ill just try to help her otherwise or tell her it wasn't THAT bad and ive seen worse ;)

When I first started I really liked my Kite because it had alot of glide. Now its too light for me. I throw a leopard that I really like. My b/f just bought me a coyote, it should get here any day! I had a dragon I really liked (lost it b/c it floated down a river). I was really excited that I could turn that over. If its really windy where you are at try buying heavier discs for her. I hated seeing my light discs blow over while my b/f's didn't. I wish her luck! Hope more of you guys get your girlfriends to start playing!

yea, my sister started playing a little along with my 4 yo nephew....they both have light discs and it does get windy at one of our hilly courses...I got her a prink cobra 150g right now and shes doing alright with it (in my backyard not really trying) if I can get her putting down I won't care about her driving...trying to get her good by october so I have a doubles partner :D

Get her a Maximizer, You can still get them via GottaGo GottaThrow - they are inexpensive, really easy to throw and will give her some distance.

My wife uses a 150g Valk on almost every hole. Some sort of rainbow looking lighting gummy putter. And a Rhyno and Roc for mids.

150 Archangel would work very well for a beginner regardless of their gender.

i got a 133 gram disc you can have/borrow for the learning curve
:)
its a pretty orange lightning , you could put a sticker on it ? LOL
but its not too bad for kids/friends who throw 100ft... half a round and it'll start to fly rather well, when you hit the back nine at wilson, i think the wind would carry it quite easily though

a leopard/cheetah and a coyote are great. I'd not suggest lighter weights. If you take the girl to go play in the wind, it will just be rough.

Archangel was the first driver my wife could throw well. It added 50-75 feet to her drive instantaneously. I don't know if i'd go 150 class but, mid 160s would be light enough for someone without a big arm, but heavy enough to not be completely at the mercy of the wind.

x5 for the Leopard. Get a couple of leopards in DX, ranging from 150-170. Let her try them. The Leopard is a disc that a lot of top pros still throw in the heavier weights -- it's one of the best discs made, and it's incredibly beginner friendly.

I've had my GF try all sorts of stuff -- comets, 150g storms, buzzes, XDs, light Eagles, light Rocs, light valks, Sabres, Cheetahs, 150g Talons, and more discs that aren't coming to mind right now.

So far a 150-160g Leopard and a mid 160s Roc (beat) are the best discs for her. Straight and easy to throw.

My gf does really well with light drivers, medium weight mids, and heavier putters. She drives mostly with 150 valks (beat dx for turnover shots, and a newer star one for straight and hyzer shots), and a 155 dx cheetah is her favorite fairway driver. She throws 165 rocs and sharks for mids, and 175 soft rhynos for putting.

  • Cobra, Stingray, Wolf, Impact, or Storm for mids (150-166)
  • XL, Leopard, JLS, Archangel for starter/fairway drivers
  • 150 Class Valkyrie for longer driver
  • 150 Class Surge for distance driver (it's a totally different beast than the standard Surge and tolerates slow speeds and weak arms surprisingly well, plus it beats into an S-turner eventually)

At least that has been my experience, both personally, and while introducing other women to the sport. My Mom has a hot pink XL that is her farthest flyer and she's even beginning to turn it over when she needs (throwing at about 80-100' on average).

My imaginary Canadian girlfriend uses maxed out Bosses and rips them 400' +. Yeah, she is that badass.

Make them pink.

Possibly use Discraft discs since Innova likes to put all that crazy art on their DX discs if that turns her off.

As for specific discs, I think the standard beginner disc sets would work in lighter weight.
