Thoughts on a portable basket before I buy..

Im getting ready to pull the trigger on a portable basket Most likely the DGA Mach Lite,Only going with a portable because I cant afford a nicer full metal basket that can be left out year round.
Im mainly going to use it in my yard for putting practice, maybe once in a great while take it somewhere, but the sole purpose is for putting practice.

While it looks the nicest out of all the other portable baskets I seen, and got great reviews,Im just concerned about the spaces between the chains. Looks like they are spaced out pretty wide about the width of a disc between the chains going down, seems pretty wide to me.

Im only judging this of videos I've seen and I have no way to see one in person,so just looking for thoughts about it before I buy. As I said im just looking to do some putting practice, and I know they are sometimes called a target basket. So am I just thinking too much into this,,is this just what it is a target and just focus on hitting the chain area and expect a fair amount of spit outs that would normally stick in a real basket?

I guess I can deal with that,I mean its not like its being used for tournament play or anything,,but just not sure how bad it will be and should I just save another $150 and skip the portable,I could get a decent basket for around $300,What do you think?

You'll have some extra cut-throughs but just count them as in since it's just putting practice.
You could always add a light set of inner chains with your savings, if you like the idea of the portable.

just dont get a skillshot. the fabric rips. mine is a piece of **** sitting in my garage. havent even had it a year. i know i can get new skins for them, but its not built to last. id say go all metal

2nd this.

You can't go wrong with the Mach lite, just don't leave it set up full time. Being out in the sun long term is going to degrade the fabric pretty quickly. My two are holding up great after a couple years with taking them down in between uses, and I think they look and catch the closest to a real basket of the foldables.

spend a little extra and get a black basket. 2 sets of chains makes it a good deal for it's price. just as good as a discatcher sport but slightly less expensive

This ^^^ keep saving!!!
If you are only going to use it around the house, you would be better off with a metal basket by far.
If you don't want to wait and don't have any extra money, get a costco basket they are ok for the money.

At this point I've got two baskets. The Instep/Pacific sits outside in the yard and I've got an innova discatcher traveler for portable uses. I would encourage anyone looking for a basket to buy metal if you think you are going to leave it outside frequently. The elements will breakdown even the best fabric over time.

Very happy with my costco baskets . Add 6 inner chains and they catch as good as any. They break down /set up reasonably for trips to the park, lake or camping. If left out in the weather year round, would probably only lat a few years, but they don't have to be put away every time. Mine will stay out on week ends or for the week if going to putt several times that week. I have two of them and will throw them fully assembled into the truck and set up a small course at park down the street. You can play nine pretty easily by throwing from multiple tee locations at only two baskets. I also like to Set em up about 50 ft apart and run at them with various up shots/putts then putt out from the longest miss .

I've owned a Skillshot, Machlite and Traveller. The Traveller is the only one I would buy again. The Skillshot really sucks, it spits out a lot and the fabric disintegrated fast. The Machlite is a bit better although I had problems with the pin popping out that collapses it, the tray bending from low putts and also the bottom tripod broke. I've had no issues with the Traveller so far over two+ years and it catches better, although I use my Titan more often. All these portable fabric type baskets will breakdown eventually. I much prefer an all metal basket though, it's definitely worth it over the long term, even the cheaper ones than mentioned above, the only downside is portability, but not typically a big deal.

I bought was a traveler in 2010, a bit dirty but intact and still holding up well. This is the one you want for convenience. Few years back, GateWay had a FB deal on their portables and I picked up a Bulleye and Titan 24 for a reasonable price and they added 5 putters and 1 proto driver for each basket. Good deal! They're not as portable, but catch well and they're easy enough to breakdown and move on occasion. The chains are high quality but the basket and poles are subject to rust if you leave them out. If you want a cheap metal basket, the Costco target would be the one, as others have mentioned, chains can be added to these.

I bought the Instep for 79.99 and added a extra set of chains Home Depot 23.00 and it works real good.

I was all set on the Mach Lite,Still kinda want it as I might bring it out to a family picnic,or maybe camping, but that will be far and few between. But I think most of you are right,,Just get a metal as it will live mostly in my back yard.
As of now I think im leaning toward the Mach II,can just stay outside all year and the cheapest I seen them was for $225.00 shipped from discgolfcenter with my shopper reward percentage off. Anyone know of any better deals?

Is the mach 2 about the same quality as the mach 3's just with fewer chains?
Im not sure what we have at our local courses,Im guessing the mach 3's. I know there made by DGA and have more than 18 chains.

Im putting in a order later this week,The mach lite isnt out as its way more affordable and I will be able to take it places easily if I wanted too. But the mach 2 will only cost me about $75 more and will last a lifetime from what I read. On the other hand the nicer weather is about gone,so im unsure how much yard time I will be getting, and I could always pop open the mach lite indoor :)

I think overall I will be happier with the mach II as its closer to a park quality basket "I hope so anyway" But its between those two for now,so let me know if you see or know of any deals coming up soon or if there is a better basket that is in the price range of the Mach 2.

I've got the mach lite and use it almost exactly as you are describing. I did this and it has treated me very well as a putt practice basket. Lowers the amount of spit thrus and give you a little smaller target for practice. I just leave mine set up in the garage, and carry it out when I want to practice. Haven't had any issues with it in the year that I've had it. My .02

I have looked at the DB-5 its in the price range and looks pretty heavy duty and looks to be very popular and sold out just about everywhere.
I looked for mach 2 videos,,I couldnt fine any!? anyone know of any?
