PDGA Executive Director Resigns

They should bring someone who knows how to raise money, even if they are a non-disc golfer.

They won't, but they should.

I somewhat agree with you except for the non-disc golfer part. I work in a corporate office for a very large trucking company. The CEO prior to the current one nearly destroyed our company. He was hired because of success he had in other businesses, but he did not understand trucking. Trucking is different. He never got it and seriously screwed things up trying to make this trucking company into something it wasn't.

We need a money raiser, but we also need someone who understands individual amateur sports. Preferably disc golf.

In a typical non-profit, the Executive Director is more a CFO/COO slot, and the Board of Directors is a CEO by committee.

I've seen this too. Even insiders can blow it bad. It takes leadership skills that involve empowerment of others that many managers lack.

Brian did a great job. I know some felt he should have somehow brought in a gazillion dollars. Such things don't happen.

For me the question is why? I wonder if some of the events from this year contributed? Are some pulling for a change in direction? Interesting situation.

Maybe, but in this organization, the ED gets credit if membership doesn't like the direction, fair or not.

I'd be curious how the PDGA goes about its hiring process myself.
If I was aware of an administrative position w the PDGA I'd be very interested, but I always assumed these were picked from a small group of insiders.

Most likely correct. Stork has the lead. Honestly, I'd agree. If you reach too far out you'd regret it. You need someone with business skills who understands the sport and it's relationships. To bad Theo Pozzy moved on.

True, but you never know who you might miss if you aren't reaching out with a broader net.
I have a masters in nonprofit management and am currently an ED for a state organization, for instance, and would happily apply.

Looking inward sometimes stifles growth opportunities.

They post a general call for applications for just about every job opening they have had since they hired Graham ten years ago (and his hiring was after an open application process). They did it when they hired the current Tour Manager, Events Manager and Membership Manager. The only jobs I'm aware of within the PDGA that were not widely posted for application were ones they created with a specific candidate in mind, usually someone who was doing the job already (like the Media Manager or IT Manager positions). If/when those spots come open, I expect they'll be posted for folks to apply for as well.

I'd say if you are truly interested in applying for the ED spot, or any post within the PDGA, keep an eye on the website (and social media) because that's the first place they'll make such announcements.
