If there was a "30 for 30" style series on Disc Golf...

I've given this some thought. Climo's career would be awesome and seems to fit 30 for 30 perfectly.

I would like to see the same for McBeth since he was winning worlds at a time where our sport was going through some kind of a morph in regards to Media and sponsorship.

But Climo's story is complete and he won 9 worlds in a row...

I'm always fascinated with how players who aren't winning but still tour (Madison Walker, Zach Melton, Matt Dollar, Tim Barham, etc) make it on the road.

I know how Ricky and Paul do - they make like 100,000. But how do these mid level touring guys do it?

Love it. Reminds me of this:

-Rise of some bigger events (GBO going from a B-Tier to this record-breaking tournament in terms of competitors)
-Ricky vs. Paul at 2014 Worlds
-The Inception of Prodigy
-Gestation of the PDGA and the tension between Ed/other players at the founding
-Something on weekend warriors/more regional pros like Jennifer Allen or Scott Withers and their everyday lives that keep them from consistently touring

So so so many more, can't wait to read the rest of this thread. Would definitely tune in for MTL's.

Perhaps I need to save some of these for my own writing. Hmmm...Or you make the videos and I will help with the words.

Little niche for 30 for 30 though.... ;)

30 for 30 aside I always thought following a few grinders around the country for a disc golf documentary would be appealing to a wide audience. Not a huge focus on the competition but the culture and how much these guys depend on people all over the country to make their dream a reality (like sleeping on couches or in a TDs basement). Then there is all that fun disc golf stereotype stuff that the sport has not outgrown. Like it or not, safety meetings on hole 10 at the local city course make for good TV.

Oh yea, and Ricky's foot fault at the Memorial...

;) let's chat.

30 for 30 on Steady Ed would be a pretty rich tale.

Yeah, there's definitely some conflicting narratives out there.

Joshua Anthon

Totally.

Little niche for 30 for 30 though.... ;)

I meant only to reference that as a series of professionally produced sports stories, not the actual series itself :)

I'm not sure I agree on Anthon since I suspect people are more interested in crime than disc golf skill. The narrative of how he might have been the next great might be interesting for some, but I personally think it's moot. It didn't happen.

The challengers. How Ken beat Barry, and others so consistently. What he did differently?

Why there are now thirty players who can challenge on any given Sunday, whereas three years ago, it was three.

I'd love to see some of the kind of niche guys have some light shed one them. The big D competition guys like Sandstrom, Wiggins, Simon and maybe add in how Jen Allen made that big push to break the Ladies record. Also Stokely could be a cool one.

Another I wouldn't mind seeing is a Des and Yeti thing, where they go over their playing careers, life for a seemingly successful couple on the road and their EDGE involvement. That could be very cool.

It's a small audience right now, but I'd love to see something on the Media guys who have helped the game along, Terry/Johnny, Billy, even you and Steve here on the forum. Plus tons of others.

I'd echo the Prodigy start/exodus as something I'd love to see as well.

Kenny and Barry would be a cool rivalry type video also. You could play it from a Frenimy type angle.

Barry Schultz actually would be a good subject. People forget about the road he took. They guy was around for years. He was a big deal in the Midwest, but never really made any sort of push in the major events. He had finished second at Worlds a couple of times, but he was waaayyy back of Climo and not a real threat to win either time. He was kinda like the Midwest version of Mike Moser. Then all of a sudden he flat-out dominated disc golf for two years. 2003-2004 was all-Barry all the time. He was in his 30's and had been kicking around the PDGA for a decade by the time that happened. There are dozens of guys who got close like he was in the late 90's-early 00's who just never got to the top. Barry did. How he got over the hump that late in his career would be a cool story.

I'm going to throw out an obscure name: Eric Tracy. Older pro, retired 2008, toured and played against Climo, including a couple playoffs. Switched from left to right handed at the beginning of his career and still managed to make it to like the 2nd ranked player in the world. Beat Climo in front of a huge (for the time) gallery in a playoff, but for the biggest win of his career, no one applauded because Ken chained out, or through, on his putt.

I know he's not well known, and Climo would be the obvious candidate because he's the big name, but I think this would have kind of that Ricky Williams vibe, and that was a good 30 for 30.
