[Innova] Innova new Valkyrie mold

sorry to disappoint, but I just don't have the appropriate technology on hand for taking pictures

thanks for the thoughts and feedback. I guess I'll buy some more (when they become available) and gather more data. Hopefully they will fly more like I have become accustomed to

I have a pro valk written PRO and is embossed. Wouldn't say its freaky os, but its probably more 9/5/-1/2. Definetly not a thundy or OLF stability.

From looking at some PFNs and some star from around 2018, the 18 has a way higher PLH. Like a millimeter difference. Check the PLH against your other valks.

I just decided to compare my two valks while I was sorting through my plastic, since they felt rather different in hand. The orange champion one was found this summer, but it seems to have the vtech feel in the rim, where you can see it seems to bulge outward slightly. The red one was also found but 12+ years ago, and it has a very straight edge where the vtech bulge is on the orange one. Is this usual variance on valks, or did the mold get slightly tweaked from the old red one to the newer orange one?

For reference the red is star plastic, 166 grams, PFN, has the patent number tooling, and is rather domey. The orange is champion plastic, 152 grams, has flight numbers, no patent tooling, and has a rather flat top. There is that huge parting line difference between them too.

Hopefully the pictures are good enough quality.

Valk lover here.

Can you post the stamp/top of the orange? Are there patent numbers on the bottom? Is the word Valkyrie embossed in the plastic on the bottom?

EDIT: Nevermind because picture #2

Both those discs are patent numbered and not embossed. Looks like you got a fluke. That orange disc is years older than the idea of Vtech from Innova.

Odd...but it happens.

They probably didn't call it VTech originally but Innova does say that the Shark -> Leopard -> Valkyrie lineage were the original VTech molds (I think Dunipace also lumped the FD in there) What Is Innova VTech? - Disc Golf United Blog

As far as the variance in the mold, I believe Innova may have mismarked some Vikings (VX/VK/VY?) as Valkyries at some point.

^Truth. That said, I've never heard mention of a Vtech-style Valk in my 25ish years being a disc nerd. I did own a Monarch Valk Japan Open hybrid that was...weird.

Threadjack: screw the Shark. Hate that mold with an unreasonable passion.

Amen. The Shark was one of the first 3 discs I bought. Hated it so much that I stayed away from mids for the next few years. Wonder how much different my throw would have turned out if I wasn't exclusively throwing drivers off the tee for a few years.

Fluke or an Eagle L and mold taken by Infinite/Viking in Valkyrie Stamp, I have seen this before with a batch of Valkyrie in Eagle Stamp, flippy L mold not X where person had compared molds, Identical and so had to buy more Valkyrie as what person got was as flippy as an older L mold Eagle gets flying like a Dragon/Valkyrie. Also, my Glow Champion Valkyrie from 2017 is like a classic Champion, Star, or Pro Valkyrie of the 2000's.

Good to hear that the orange is just a weird one. Innova goes through so many discs that they are bound to have some issues popup at times. I knew someone on here could help explain it.

Also I checked out Innova's flight formula video for the valkyrie, and the profile they show seems rather close to the orange fluke one, surprisingly: Flight Formula: Innova Valkyrie.

Love the buzz and the wasp. Just wish DC had a base or midgrade plastic that I liked.

Yeah, I don't know why they bothered with shark3.

Roc3s and Stingrays cover straight and flippy. Since I shun premo plastic I've had a hard time finding something to fill the overstable end. Probably going to try a DX Gator next.

I probably just need to admit there's no solution to be found in base plastic and buy a selection of grip aids to try. Grip issues are why I don't throw candy plastic.

What did you guys hate so much about the shark? I reserved that level of hate for the Roc - "I want a huge bead to scrape the #@$! out of my finger on every throw, and make it super rounded and domey so I cant get a clean release because who needs accuracy in mids?" What a cult of hot garbage that was.

I got stuck on a Buzzz SS and Hornet for my first mids. These days its Truth and Verdict which are pretty much the same thing. The Shark3 flew like a stable Truth but hit the market more like a lead balloon. It was much better IMO than the Roc3 for a buzzz-like flat mid, but naming and marketing is clearly pretty important.

This probably means a Valkyrie you had in Star is the fluke as I thought.

Fwiw, I hate domey rocs too. I was throwing flat tops prior to the roc3. No issue with beads though. IMO bad flashing on candy plastic is way worse on your fingers than a bead.

As far as the shark, it's been so long that I don't really remember why I disliked it so much. I know it never felt right in my hand. Really don't recall how it flew for me.
