so its designed to provide big D for little arms..in the hands of big arms is it a flippy useless disc or not. Do big arms get better results out of stronger stability discs. Is the katana a mirage that might hamper my game...I have never thrown one. I throw a destroyer and wraith now and feel these are at my limit.

depends on the plastic and weight. ive thrown katanas that feel like fast sidewinders and ive thrown some that feel like a champ boss. the cherry ones are the 170ish stars. hyzer flip to tons of glide and a small fade. thats, what i feel, is the "katana line". start with a light pro or star and work your way up from there.

do big arms get more d with them? i think the mold chosen and the throwing style have more to do with it than anything else. the high speed and flippy nature make them the most workable fast disc for noobz on the market.

If you can throw a wraith you will have success with a Katana. Just my opinion. The Katana has gotten me birdies on holes that I never could reach before. Not sure why you waited this long to pick one up! Get you a pro on the way from DGC!

If you have a noodle arm like myself get a 168

I'm throwing a 169 Pro Katana that's been working really nicely.

I never threw one...I am trying to avoid anything speed 13 until I feel like I have consistency at lower speeds. Then I see every noob on the course pull out the katana and it has me wondering if Im missing something

Is a Katana like a Surge SS? A friend was telling me about his and the description seemed pretty similar.

i have all three plastics that the katana come in and this is what i've come to find for my throwing style..

all max weight

pro katana- thrown on hyzer with 70% power get me 380 to 400 ft.
any more hyzer power combo makes me feel less accurate.

star katana- thrown with slight hyzer (less than pro) and 70 to 80% power gets me to 400ft sometimes more.

champ katana- thrown hyzer full power gets a small s curve but 400ft easy
thrown flat it gives mega s curve and at one of our golf driving ranges landed around 470ft at this point to me it feels less controllable.

my fav is the pro, feels like i dont have to throw hard at all and gets great distance but im not big on wide rim drivers. i actually dislike them

I don't use mine in the practice field. I use my fairway drivers there. I will use it in a monthly setting where I know I'll get an extra 40 feet.

OK so basically this disc I need a huge field or a massive open fairway....I mean turn of -3 and fade 3....LOL I don't have many courses that I play where this is gonna help me and the only open holes around me are downhill crushes with a constant headwind..I think it'd turnover too much...I'm thinking this would be a toy and not a useful disc for me....can it be thrown straight if tossed at slower speed or should I stick with a TL T-Bird striker at full speed to perform str8 or controlled shots. Basically this is an field bobmer disc right?

I have seen Pros and top level ams throw the Katana, but mainly as a long range turn over disc.

The comparison someone made to the Surge SS is way off. Katana is much faster and I would guess even less stable.

Yeah. It sounds like this disc may not benefit you. If you're going to throw at lower speeds you may as well stick with the fairway drivers.

at slower speeds i think the pro will stay straight but to me smaller rim discs work better with slower speeds...idk just my opinion

i also love the TL....clouded judgment.

Well there is one open course but its always windy there.....so maybe with the wind at my back I'd throw it but then it'd be slowed down and fly straighter and perhaps not get that big air r to l action. I might buy a pro one and see what the fuss is about...I kind of was trying to not take the bait though. Do any top pros throw one?

I'm not sure about the pros.

I have to say that this is the first new driver that I've seen pretty instantaneous results with.

My broken in 168 star Katana can be used in the woods on a tight fairway if thrown at a low line drive trajectory. I have had some amazing shots using it that way.

Lately though I have not had the time to practice so the Katana has stayed in my bag as it does take more power and control to keep a Katana in the fairway than a Teebird.

Zenbot is exactly right though. I am a sucker and always go out and buy the latest and greatest. This is the only disc that I have ever bought that actually amazed me at the first throw. In the practice field the Katana consistently flies 40-50 feet farther than anything else I have thrown.

If you have ever had any success with a Valkyrie then you will like the Katana. To me it is the same disc except its flight pattern is exagerated in turn, fade, and distance.
