I wear a mitten with a hand warmer on my off hand. A thin liner glove protects my hand from the warmer.
My throwing hand is bare but goes in a pocket with a hand warmer when not throwing.
As mentioned above, pick up discs with the mittened off hand.
In my previous house we had rather large living room (16x32). Setting up a basket in one corner and standing in the opposite gave me a nice practice distance. The wall next to the basket soon took on the look of a Jackson Pollock painting.
