This is a much needed discussion for sure so I am not trying to bash any perspective. I agree finding the most user friendly presentation is important. I also think that map literacy can grow. There is a chicken/egg scenario here: 'players don't use caddie books so why bother' vs 'caddy books...

Depends on what the sign company can do. The difference is likely $10-$15 per sign, The reason it's not larger is the 12x18 is the standard size of a speed limit sign which is available as a precut, pre-drilled blank. The smaller sign includes the labor cost of cutting the the 10x12 from a...

Those same people will struggle just a s much with the images you provided. You didn't add any scale. Do the white lines indicate the same amount of elevation in each photo? This is no different than the elevation profiles on the tee signs at Wildcat in Iowa (among others) with no frame of...

In this case the Bushnell elevation data was the problem and of course the marketing guy defended the sponsor. Also you saw the part about not answering emails. They circle the wagons and take on a 'smartest guys in the room' attitude.

Cedar Creek in Fairmont, MN? I made the hole maps for East, West and Central. The tee signs were designed by Justin Boehne.

I have been told by a surprising number of people that I am 'making up' the elevation profiles and contour lines just to decorate the map. They have no idea this technology even exists. My favorite interaction was this response from Seth Fendley who at the time was the marketing director for...

Elevation drop is roughly 35 feet with only a little undulation. The red line on the aerial image is where the profile is measured. The distance is greater than 1,000ft here because I plotted landing spots offset from the straight line tee to pin. (the blue line is from Udisc and measures 988ft...

Hey Steve, straight line from tee to pin is very close to that. I don't have an exact location of the pin to measure from but I can say that the slight left to right of the landing zones does not make it much longer. (the blue line is from Udisc and measures 988ft. I think the pin is placed a...

I agree that many people either don't see them or don't understand them. Better maps for this sport relies on better map literacy. I showed some of these to a few pros at The Preserve last year and they really liked them and thought they would be useful to have during practice rounds.

Yeah, the sport of disc golf is simply not using the technology available. I could create these for every hole on tour (if the elevation data is available for that area) I have not checked the new venues for the rest of this year yet but almost all of 2023 locations have it.

I have in the past but they tend to crowd out other numbers like the down range distance. on the elevation profile I found it more use label the amount of change so you don't have to do the math in your head. I include the lines because they help emphasize the amount of change along the fairway...

The increasing advent of Elbow Injuries ...

Oh, I'll keep talking about it and thanks for gatekeeping! BTW...no one is getting injured ripping 500' drives in the woods.
