    The Method Docuseries is Live!

Hi Brian. I looked at your method video and it seems very simple. How do you generate the force that makes your rear hip rotate? Do you drop your rear side body weight down or do you use pressure from your front leg?

Jacob Courtis' form & Gossage's interesting comment on it

So it’s supposed to feel weak? How does he do it so strongly? Or do we need bigger biceps to throw far haha? I do arm the disc a lot when trying to figure out the Beto drill.

Jacob Courtis' form & Gossage's interesting comment on it

Do you have an explanation or video on the Beto drill? I don’t care how the presentation is. My issue with the drill has always been getting my arm to move powerfully away from the chest.

Jacob Courtis' form & Gossage's interesting comment on it

I think he likes it that way. Keep it a shroud of mystery so no one can really question him.

    The SW22 Swim Move

Yeah…..she puts a pulley up and says punch down, but the logical result of that would be the other arm moving up……. Seems like swim move would create a horizontal vector but punching down would be vertical.

Forming the whip by Overthrow Disc Golf

I’m just confused on what the goal of the swing is then. Because your lower body is not directly powering up the disc. It needs to power up something else, to power something else, to power something else, etc. What is imparting the force in the disc directly? And does powering up that piece...

Forming the whip by Overthrow Disc Golf

Curious what your thoughts are about your body if you aren’t “pulling”. Does swinging mean that your upper body needs to rotate with force from the brace? I hear linear vs rotational arguments all the time, but is it a combination of both? Linear weight shift leading to rotation and torque in...

Did they finally return the dgr mirror to the site or is it still gone?

Forming the whip by Overthrow Disc Golf

I’m not trying to say that they’re necessarily distinctive or that we need to use the word “pull” or “swing”. I’m just saying that being rigid in our vocabulary is doing something similar to what Josh is doing in his teaching. It’s heading down the path of saying something is right or wrong when...

Forming the whip by Overthrow Disc Golf

I wouldn’t say throwing a baseball or football would be considered “pulling” the ball. But we’re also not backhanding either of those things. I would never use the word pull to talk about forehand technic. The backhand is just so unnatural that we have to come up with words to describe feel. I’m...

Forming the whip by Overthrow Disc Golf

I don’t know that we can completely strike the word “pull”out of disc golf vocabulary. It’s just a matter of what part of your body are you using to pull. Obviously if you do what Josh is teaching that’s wrong. But if you’re using your body and body mass to pull the disc (like the doorframe...

Forming the whip by Overthrow Disc Golf

I think you hit the nail on the head. A lot of coaches make it sound like they’re right, but the mechanics of disc golf is still so new that we don’t know for sure. I do know that what Josh mentions and what you do above is that preventing shoulder collapse (rounding) is the key to throwing...

Cole Redalen vs Paul McBeth - Slingshot

I think the real issue is that there really isn’t any magic to get from 150-300. You don’t need to be a good coach to get someone to throw those distances. Most people can learn how to throw 300 with form that will never get in the realm of 400. A lot of YouTube coaching is tailored towards...

Cole Redalen vs Paul McBeth - Slingshot

Can we at least talk about the differences in Cole’s form vs Paul’s? Slingshot may be wrong about a lot of things, but the differences he points out are very real. Cole does let his back foot leak backwards but somehow is still able to coil enough to throw monster drives.

Form Critique - Just starting to learn things right

I think one of the issues is definitely timing based in regards to the x-step. When I x-step, I feel like I don't have enough time to coil before it releases. Probably due to early encoiling/pulling and probably not coiling fast enough. I will work on forward tilt and side bend since that seems...
