I enjoy courses that require a wide variety of shots, and am a bit dismayed by the over-emphasis on righty hyzers that prevails at many courses around the country. My favorite courses have a high risk/reward factor that rewards smart decisions and punishes overly aggressive or timid play. I especially love par 4 courses with SSAs in the mid 60s. Trees are good, especially early trees that require focus and attention. Aesthetics are also important, and I will rate a pretty course higher than a more demanding, but uninspiring layout.
