Close to down town with easy parking. Makes for a nice combination if you're stopping in town for lunch before heading off to camp, hike etc.

Plays a historic mining site, which is kind of neat. The course also has some nice views of Mt Crested butte (esp. hole 9) which makes for nice scenery. Recommend checking out some of the old photos on the City of Crested Butte's park website https://www.crestedbutte-co.g...-1FE76869DAA2

Enjoyed holes 7-9 which play along an old road that is somewhat separated from the jumbled nest that is 1-6. Hole 8 finished on what looks to be an old foundation of some sort, which feels very arbitrary but definitely has a kind of neat factor that I liked.

Nice baskets, catch well enough.

A lot of fairway overlap, holes 2-6 all play across roughly the same ground making communication very key if there's even one other group at play. Also holes 2 and 5 play with the same pin and come from a similar direction... so again, communicate.

Some road/property danger with much of the course abutting a residential area and cars frequently parked just along the 'fairway' for hole 4.

Signage was often non-existant and in almost every case where the signs were still in place, the poles had fallen out of the ground and were propped against a tree or just lying around. Also, walking up to the course it was hard to tell it was even there, you have to do a little searching to find the baskets from the parking lot and even then, the first basket you'll see is for 9, not 1.

Some disc loss potential in the heavy vegetation especially around the pin for 4 and the little slough type creek.

Downloading the map is a must, they don't have one on site and even if they did you'd need to check it about a dozen times to keep on track (alternately if you have a favorite local, that may be the way to go).

It's one of those courses that's not great, but it's fine if you know what you're getting into. Expect a rough game with a lot of "why did they lay this out like this" type of moments. Play it if you're around and it's still 2020 when the resort decided not to put in the pins for the mountain course this year. We played it twice almost for the shear oddity of it.

-Impossible to follow without a local
-EZ to lose discs, especially for quick rounds.

No need to rant for long: It is what it is. This is a decent little 'Town, Practice and Quick Sunset Round' kind of course. With the '10-3' course being 16 to 21 bucks and taking several hours, Big Mine serves a purpose.

That said, it's pretty bad. Most tee signs just say the hole #. There are no tee-pads and no chance to let go and huck it with any confidence. The shrubs and grass was heavy enough to lose discs in many places. There are no directional signs, and I at least, could not follow the course. At least the baskets were true enough for good putt and approach practice.

I am struggling to come up with any real positives for this course. Crested Butte is a pretty little town and I expected a good DG experience, but was disappointed.

There were some ups and downs that presented some challenge, but overall the course is squeezed into a too tight area.

The course is wedged in between a residential street and a steep hillside. The course side of the street was solidly lined with parked cars for the homes on the other side of the street. Several basket were placed such that slightly long or errant throws could hit the cars. Other baskets were placed near the backs of homes or businesses and presented possibility of throwing into those areas.

The baskets had numbers on them (sometimes two numbers) but some didn't match the course map.

Teepads were non-existent and tee signs were poor as well. Course navigation was very difficult and we were not able to figure out many of the holes. Perhaps playing with a local guide would be the answer, but a first-time visitor will likely not be able to figure the course out.

Perhaps in the off season the line of cars parked along the course edge would not exist, but the currently layout makes it difficult to aggressively play many of the holes.

-Several interesting shots through some trees and brush
-Quite a bit of elevation change on some of the holes
-Course map and basket for returning lost discs on the side of the warming hut ( Make sure you look at the map as you will need it to figure out the lay of the course)
-Baskets are in really good shape and each basket is marked with the hole number
-Benches throughout the course to take a break on

-This is a very hard course flow to follow, if you don't have a map or guide with you, you will most likely not be able to figure out how the holes flow
-This course has some of the worst teesigns, I have ever seen. It looks like someone ordered some prenumbered blank teesigns and then never added the hole layout, distance or par to the teesigns as there are spots for all that information on the teesigns but they are curiously left blank. On top of that a lot of the teesigns are lying on the ground next to the teepad instead of standing up so it makes it even harder to find some of the teepads
-The teepads are not good. They consist of nothing more than a well worn spot in the ground, with a couple rocks marking the front fo the teepad.
-While a few of the holes are interesting, qauite a few of them are just straight ahead shots, which can get really boring fast.
-Several of the holes have some deep brush that can easily eat up some discs.

I was not very impressed with this course in the state it is currently in. I see a lot of potential in the course if the teepads and teesigns are improved. Right now I feel this course is not using some of the great potential it has. If you are in Crested Butte looking for a quicker alternative to the one on the ski mountain, give this one a try but don't go out of your way to play it.

Nice in town location, pretty well marked front 9, nice elevation change for such a small place.

Back 9 could be marked with signs like front 9 as well as some general direction arrows to the next tee pad. Better T boxes would be nice as well

Good course for the space provided, and mostly easy to follow the front 9. There is a established back 9 but your going to need to find a local to show you them.

Developed by locals, and played every day by those same locals. Many tourneys are held here with tons of prizes and kegs usually donated by Mountain Spirits. Once the trees fill in, this course is beautiful, with a few nice water hazards and steep terrain.

Once the snow flies, this course is unplayable until April or May. Course can be hard to follow, lots of back and forth across the hillside.

Some of the holes are well disguised in the trees and scrub. Fun play across a small irrigation creek. It's an easy walk or bike to the course from the town.

Very easy to have a shot roll down the hillside. Not a huge amount of variety in what is essentially a long line of back and forth straight holes. Very difficult to follow the layout, and the tee areas are just dirt patches.

It can be a hard walk at times along the hillside. Very steep and hard to keep your footing. I love this area of Colorado, and it's great to have any kind of course out here.
