This is the best course in the area for pure playing. Some features are missing, but for the golf itself these are the best holes around. Two of them still hold spots in my top 18 and #4 in the long pin is the best disc golf hole in KC.

The course is very long (when it was built in 2005 and set long it was the longest 18 holes in the world at 11,047ft), however it's not all "grip and rip" holes. There's a ton of variety here. You'll go uphill, downhill, in the woods, in the open, long and flat or over a valley with a glob of trees in the middle.

The elevation use is superb. You'll never forget launching a bomb down hole 7, and hopefully by then you've forgotten all the uphill climbing on hole 3. Hole 18 comes off an elevated tee, through a set of trees... then up a 3-story hill with the short pin at the top and the long pin 250ft past that.

The tee pads are huge. And yes, some of them are shaped like the fairways (I know one of the guys who designed them).

The signposts have four big bag holders.

There's a long and short course within the same set of pads and baskets. The short course uses shorter baskets on 3, 9, 11, and 12, splits 9 and 11 into two holes, and uses shorter tees on 4, 10, and 13, and with that is able to cut out long course holes 17 and 18 completely (all the numbers I used correspond to the long course holes since I honestly haven't played the short course on purpose). With this in place, the large course can be made into 21 holes if you split 9, 11, and 13 into two holes with corresponding pads.

The tees and baskets are still in excellent condition. There's a few pads that have cracked a corner with age, but they're still totally playable.

Most of the time there's a good variety of short and long pins set up.

Hole 13 has a great view, but beyond that it's kind of just 800ft of grass.

I don't prefer the pins that have been made artificially harder by placing a large mound of dirt under them (6 middle and long, 12 short, 13 middle).

The course is in a bit of a shady area (cars slowly driving around, etc) but normally there's nothing all that bad going on.

No practice basket unless you want to walk down to the one by the 9-hole course. However basket 10 is near pad 1 so it can be used.

There are several holes missing their signs.

Navigation isn't the best in the world, but once you've played a round or two it's not too bad. The map in Files will get you through just fine.

If you're ready to test your arm, your endurance, and your patience, come and play here. The park is never very busy which is unfortunate as this is truly the best course for playing in the whole of the KC metro. It has it's flaws, but you'll be glad you went.

Blue Valley is the most world-class course in the Kansas City area. It features long holes, many par 4's and 5's depending on pin placements, extreme hills to challenge yourself in every way, and just enough trees to provide obstacles on nearly every hole. There's so much elevation that some tee signs list the elevation you gain or lose going from tee to pin.

Nearly every hole is different, and has a variety of opportunities to sail a disc down a hill, thread through trees, or bomb something with nothing in the way. Some highlights: 4 is my favorite hole in KC, 7 is a massive bomber - but don't put it on the road, 9 is a dogleg right par 5 that puts everything else to shame, and the tee shots on 15 and 18 are unique and only possible because of the elevation change.

The par 4's and 5's are my favorite part of the course - 4, 6, 7, 9, and 14 especially. They are all true multi-shot holes, and because they are so long, the placement of your first shot will dictate what you need to do on your second shot. This really helps the replayability of this course.

For those wanting to play the shorter "inner" course, you can split up holes 9 and 11 into two holes, play shorter tees on 4, 10, and 13, and cut holes 17 and 18 entirely. See the course map for details.

This course wears you out like none other! This is a great place to see how much endurance you really have. It loops back to the parking lot a few times, so you can store water or snacks in your car and retrieve them mid-round.

Navigation is poor. The "inner course" is not marked well at all, leading to confusion when you see baskets and tees that aren't used by the regular course. Several newer pins have been installed that aren't on the tee signs (roughly one pin per hole, actually), so the signs will probably be inaccurate. Because the course is so... big, even a map won't solve everything. Play with someone who's been here before, preferrebly.

The grass gets a little tall at times. This place gets mowed regularly, but not regularly enough. Weeds are an issue on some holes, in parts of the fairways that the mowers can't reach. They don't really create lost disc opportunities, but can lengthen rounds.

Not in a great part of town. There's usually more people chilling on the side of the road than playing Disc Golf.

No practice basket. Hole 10's basket is near the tee of 1, so you can practice there. Pins get moved rarely, though it's not a big deal since this course has so much challenge and variety anyway.

THIS IS NOT THE COURSE FOR EVERYONE. Beginners will likely not have a fun time here (though I did when I was a beginner). The long holes and grueling round make this a difficult course to play if you're not already a seasoned player. This isn't a reason for a low rating, but it is a fair warning.

Watch discs going down hills; they will sail for seemingly forever.

This course has the potential to earn 5 stars from me. What it needs is new signs, that mark both the regular and inner course, better fairways and cleaned up rough, and maybe some small alterations to a few holes.

Blue Valley Park is the highest point in Kansas City. So the views of the city and skyline are nice. The park was well maintained and in good shape when I was there.

The tees are big concrete pads that are oddly shaped. I can't verify the rumor I heard that each tee pad is in the shape of that hole's green.

There is so much space here that you get a little of everything. Big fairways for long bombs. Many trees with good basket placement so that technical skills are required.There are extreme elevation shots routinely here.

This is a championship level professional course. As I was playing this 11,220 footer and getting physically beat down in the process I was trying to come up with the right description for a title and here's some words that came to mind, which will hopefully give you an indication of what you're in for if you come here: MONSTER, MAMMOTH, MOTHER OF ALL COURSES, and I finally settled on MARATHON. Not just anyone can go run a marathon, so be prepared for a round at Blue Valley Park.

Blue Valley Park is the longest dedicated 18 hole disc golf course in the world. There are three hybrid courses that are longer which share a ball golf course (Danville, VA, Hulbert, OK and Germantown, NC) but hybrids can't compare to dedicated courses since ours only have plastic flying around and not those hard little white balls. And those 3 ball golf courses rent carts, which make monster course more manageable. The course map here says that Blue Valley Park is 10,834 ft, but the long tee distance here says 11,220. Either way those numbers qualify it as the longest dedicated 18 hole disc golf course in the world.

There is a breath taking aspect of Blue Valley Park. It is nice to have SO MUCH SPACE to yourself. And for the few hours I was there alone it was mostly in solitude and serenity. That is a pro, but I also list the size as a con since once your breath is taken away you're exhausted.

The 2016 KC Wide Open pro tournament was here and it's worthwhile to watch Eagle McMahon bomb away on this mega course (https://youtu.be/Ah-gR1aZ5cc). If you can't get the link to work then go to YouTube and search for the name of the tournament. You can also see for yourself the funny shaped tees the other reviewers comment about.

Navigation is very frustrating. Many tee signs are vandalised, which is understandable when you see some of the shady characters hanging around the parking lot at the top of the hill by the first tee. But when I got away from the parking lot and into the course I didn't see people again until I got to the bottom of the hill and there were two exhausted disc golfers trying to find the next hole by looking on a course map. They told me four things: 1) the number 3 basket is supposed to by the lake, but it's gone, 2) this place is impossible to navigate, 3) it is way hotter and 4) more exhausting than expected so we are quitting. I did find a basket near the lake, yet not as close as the map shows, but their other three comments were valid, even though I did not quit!

It would have been nice if they used the lake so there would be a water challenge but it does not come into play on three unless you are way off the mark.

Long is not necessarily good. Was an objective of the designers to create the longest dedicated 18 hole disc golf course in the world?

Upshawt1979 gave this Blue Valley Park a 5.0 and said, "I loved this terrain, and shot shaping without being aggressively technical due to trees. It is like Water Works, with a lot more real estate." I agree and that's well said, but I can't give it a 5.0 due to navigation problems and more real estate is not necessarily a plus, especially without a golf cart.

The Valkyrie Kid's three Kansas City courses played are of interest when considered in light of Blue Valley Park's championship course. He came to Blue Valley Park and did not play this highly rated course. He only played the short 9 hole course, which he reviewed. I'm not as old as TVK, The DGCR Legend and stats leader in most categories, but I am 60 years old. I haven't communicated with TVK, but I can learn from the number one course bagger in the world and save my energy for other courses when I come face to face with a monster like Blue Valley Park. This time around I'm glad I took the plunge, plus I had not done enough research at that time to even know there was a short course there. I'm sorry I missed it.

This might very well be the most incredible course I have ever played in my life. It is true par 72 golf, and will challenge your game completely. It is incredible. That said, the first time through this course is nothing short of infuriating. The maps don't always agree with the signs, and a couple signs are missing. There is no way to tell what position the pins are in from the tee, and some of the holes are so long that you literally have to walk hundreds of feet sometimes to find the basket. When you do find the basket, the number on the basket is correct, but the flags have completely different numbers (really? Not one of them is accurate) It is also difficult to tell what par corresponds to what pin. If you are playing the short (red) course, the holes diverge at hole 9, and short 10 becomes 9 longs basket, 11 short throws to 10 long basket, 12 and 13 short throw to the same basket, which is the basket for 11 long. Confused? YOU BET YOU ARE!

Do not try to play short and long courses simultaneously (like with 2 or more people of varying abilities)... you will go crazy.

There are clearly new multiple pin placements on each hole (only one of which is in play at any one time, unless you are playing the short course, in which case some holes have 2... but how are you to know this? You're not) and the maps and signs have not been updated to accommodate them. When and if the signs become PHOTO accurate, and you can CLEARLY see where the pin is from the tee using the signs, this course will be a 5 star, hands down. Unfortunately, I only had a chance to play it once, so I left feeling disappointed that I could not enjoy the course in all it's glory.

If you are a beginner, do not play here. You will get lost and destroyed. This is a blue-gold level course.

All this said, once you know the layout, it is PHENOMENAL.

I am really digging the Blue Valley disc golf course. Just played a 18 hole mammoth of a course as the sun went down on a fairly nice late winter day. 53 degrees and sunny, with light to moderate winds.

Very very significant elevation changes, and long. The course charted around this park is beautifully planned, and outfitted with great equipment. The concrete tees are more than large, they are custom fitted on many holes to allow run ups from a number of angles. There are very cool pillars on each tee numbered with foot tall steel stencils, making it easy to identify from 50 feet away or more. Most still have signs, that are good mapping the hole out for you, though much of the time the target will be in sight from near the box. Baskets are good Mach 3 models with flags on most if not all of them. A couple of holes have alternate short tees, and many have concrete benches.

The landscape is ideal for the sport. Huge hills are dominantly open and grassy, but the large trees have just enough density to demand a well executed turn here and there. When it is wide open, the difference will be made up by increased length, and driving and putting on steep inclines and declines. The wind was not terrible today, but may also play a roll in success or failure. Usually footing is good, the grass was in great shape for mid February, barely any mud or water in play.

Good to great on each and every hole. The avenues are relatively wide, but you have to nail it on nearly every shot. Lots of power and accuracy required to have decent chance of par on most holes. I got about 2 or 3 drives that were near to or exactly what I wanted. Several went high, low, or turned over to much. You don't have to be 100%, but the closer the better. Often the second shot required another max power throw to get close to the pin. Clipped a couple of branches also, but didn't take a ton of bad knock downs. The pin positions offered a chance at a 2 birdie in rare instances, and I should have got one on hole 15, but choked on the 15' putt after my perfect drive. Got a bad roll and wound up with a 3 putt bogey instead. Even the bogies are good here, though.

I saw security concerns in previous reviews, and some of the refuse on the ground looked like it may have been looted from parked cars. Items like a steering wheel cover, a nice looking seat off of a crotch rocket, and clothes. Some other areas with accumulated litter. Saw a few people sitting in cars that gave me some notion of concern, but there were no problems for me this time.

Maybe a little trash, literally and/or figuratively, but not as bad as Kessler in either sense, and with a way better course if you ask me.

Hole 5 was missing the sign, and 13 was missing the sign and the numbers were broken off.

It is not as technical as a lot of the 5 star reviews I have written. The trees can be formidable, and so can the distance. If you keep it reasonably in check and make shots without shanking them terribly on a fairly consistent basis, you should be ok. I shot a 71, with a few of the baskets in short positions. Made some good putts, and missed a few. Went OB once on hole 8.

I loved this terrain, and shot shaping without being aggressively technical due to trees. It is like Water Works, with a lot more real estate. And there is a 9 hole course I didn't even get to play yet. Can not wait to return to this one. Championship caliber that a guy like me with average skills can play near par when on point.

There are several great views from certain points on this course. Either in terms of course design or natural landscape of the area. If it isn't perfect, it i close to the goal. I approve of and heavily promote the idea of you playing this course if you have not yet, provided you have the physical ability and privilege to make the trip.
Most disc golf lovers should be able to enjoy this one.

There are about 12 new placements out there, most were used at the 2016 City of Fountains. The Parks Department is keeping up the grass and rough very well. Majestic fairways and challenging greens throughout the Big course, took our foursome about 3.5 hours. Every hole has options and challenges and is a 'must play' for any serious golfer.

Plenty of parking, but bring water food and TP . There is some debate over cutting of challenging rough

Mixed use public park, so be safe and courteous. Great park for bird watchers

Best Tee pads of any course I have played. They are very big, which is good because the course is long, and sometimes you need a good run-up. Tees are also shaped the same as the hole's layout (so if the hole curves right, so does the pad)

Nice course design. There are many holes that I want to just empty my bag on. The course is long, but most of the big 500' holes are at least slightly down hill, several are across valleys, so even for intermediate throwers, its not as intimidating as it seems.

The course plays back to the parking lot after hole 10, which is nice, since the course takes a while to play.

Couple of the holes have red baskets, that you can play to for a shorter hole number 9 in particular. So, you can play it as a 300' hole as opposed to the 900' monster that it is, or you can play it as two holes. There is one other hole in addition to 9 that you can play as two holes, then skip 17 and 18, to make it a little shorter course.

They have recently added several shorter pin placements to add some mixture of short and long holes.

Course is mowed pretty regularly greens are almost always in good shape, only once or twice has the rough been really tall when I played

Signage needs updated. Some are faded really badly, and others are missing.

Couple holes you have to cross a road to next tee (holes 3, 8 and I think 14), which can be confusing if its your first time. (again where signage would help)

This in my opinion is a phenomenal course. It takes a while to play, and it will let you know really quickly what kind of shape you are in. As stated in earlier reviews, it is not a beginner friendly course. It doesnt mean you cant try. I played this for the first time after only playing a few months. Course is never super busy, so its a nice venue to practice driving. Water Works may get all of the attention in KC, but if you have a couple hours to play a course (and not get stuck behind other groups) this is a must-play in KC.

The views from the hill tops are impressive. It's a great place to take pictures of your buddies throwing from a hilltop with whole vistas ranging out behind them.

Overall not really a course for beginners due to length more than anything else. If you're good at bombers this is a course for you.

The park is overall nice, but the neighborhood that's around it is sketch. I would not play this course near dusk/after dark, but during the morning/afternoon I felt relatively safe.

Beautiful course. Great variety of throws from huge dog legs to wide open 800'+ downhill bombs. It'll test your ability to transition from a full power rip to more "placement first" mindsets. Bring water, especially if it's warm out.

Course is slightly interrupted by fallen trees from recent storms but still playable by all means. Definitely recommend tracking pin placements, newer players might struggle with longer course placements but still worth the experience regardless.

Tee pad #6 is currently unplayable due to a fallen tree on top of it (as of 6/27/15). Easy enough to tree of a few feet to the side. Otherwise all other holes play as usual. Course takes roughly 2.5-3 hours to play.

The course has excellent tees, shaped like the fairways. There is plenty of space to run up. If you like elevation, the is plenty of that. Plenty of distance for big arms to really rip it.

Not a good beginner course (I am a beginner,I should know.). Because of the huge distances, throwing 200-300 feet takes a few shots just to get there.

A couple flat holes might be nice.

This is a very unique course, even in the midst of everything KC has to offer. Never played anything like this and that's a good thing!

The elevation here is insane! And I thought Water Works had crazy elevation changes. You are throwing up and down a series of very steep hills everywhere and it is simply a blast.

There are lots of different shots here, in my opinion. I used a much fuller bag than I usually carry and needed it. While "long" is the dominant theme, the elevation and different left vs. right looks really help keep the course interesting until the final hole.

This park is very wooded and the trees are used very well to create lots of challenging shots everywhere. I didn't feel there were any overly boring or plain holes here and that's always nice.

Although this park is huge and has shelters and other amenities, the DG course appears to be kept away from them fairly well. You cross a small pavilion going from 3-4 and are within sight of a playground shooting on 16, but that's about it. Unless you grossly overshoot on a few holes, you're also pretty well away from the roads too. Little chance of non-DGers interfering with your drives unless people picnic in the fairways or something (more on that later!).

Tee pads are amazing and very clever. They're basically the shape of the fairway, so if you're a bit lost they might help you out.

Signage was generally good and provided not only distance and par info, but elevation change, and also pointed you in the direction of the next hole. It was mostly present and in readable condition except for on a couple holes. In addition, there are large metal numbers atop each sign to help you see where you're going. Nice touch.

Plenty of benches and trash cans around. Shame the trash cans don't get used more though (more on that later).

Baskets seemed to be in very good condition. Flags atop them are in good shape and crucial to course navigation.

The scenery here is very pretty. There's a lake in the park and the woods are very beautiful in fall as well. Even in winter when I was here, I enjoyed it. The park is huge and prior to DG, I had no idea it even existed.

There is parking right by hole 1 and easily accessible from hole 11 if you need anything from your car, which you might given the length of this course. I'm assuming there are bathrooms in one of the shelters somewhere but didn't stick around to find out.

Don't get me wrong, this course can punish bad drives with a lost disc pretty easily, but it's still open enough that I personally thought you can really crank it on multiple holes without worrying TOO much. You do have to keep your eyes on your discs though, they'll roll with the amount of elevation here. In my opinion that's way less frustrating than almost losing a disc 3 feet off the fairway in a field that just needs to be mowed. Granted, it was December when I played so maybe that's an issue here too. I'll have to come back and see.

Blue Valley would really have been even better with a couple shorter holes to break it up a bit. With so many woods around I'm not sure why there isn't a tunnel shot or something more technical mixed in for fun. It would also help to make the course more accessible for all skill levels, without taking much away from the course as-is.

I really question the purpose of the "junior" course. The teepads and random baskets that comprise it are more confusing than anything else, and easy to throw at on a few holes of the main course. If you're a beginner, there's better options all over KC to hone your skills than trying to mess with the short course here in my opinion.

Navigation isn't really that bad here with a map, but as mentioned the alternate baskets don't help anything really. The "flow" is generally decent but there are areas that might leave you wandering (3-4, 13-14).

There was trash everywhere out here. Fast food wrappers, cups, grocery bags, boxes. Most of it didn't look like DG trash either, so I'm assuming this park does get some use, just not when I was there.

I might get downvoted for listing this as a con, but let's be honest, this park is in a bad neighborhood. Not the WORST in KC and it didn't stop me from playing here alone (which maybe wasn't really smart in retrospect), but there's bars on several of the house windows here for a reason. I didn't get hassled or anything, but did see lots of shady characters around (think random men driving around and around and around the park roads, occasionally staring at you, and stopping at random places to stare into space). Definitely keep your head on a swivel out here and be alert.

This place is a challenge and is gorgeous. Very unique and I would definitely recommend if you are in the area. While the area is rough and I wouldn't hang out here anywhere close to dusk, it's not so horrible I would skip this park because of it - that would be a shame.

All in all, solid 4.0 course. I mainly docked for the lack of a couple shorter baskets, the confusing junior course, trash laying everywhere, and yes, a smidge for the neighborhood. That's just my opinion because it does influence the enjoyment of the round if you don't feel entirely safe playing somewhere, but if you don't agree, that's okay! That's why we each get an opinion and I could easily be wrong, just want people to know what they're getting into. Happy discing!

Pin flags on each hole.
The tee box signs are unique and easy to spot.
The comcrete tee pads are esch shaped into the same dimensions of an arial view of the hole.
Not only is this course long, but it is a unique blend of up and down slopes. For example, both holes 17 & 18 exceed 700 feet, but they are valley shots, and a part of one large rolling hill. This means that its important to know how to throw far and strait, plus make good decisions - like is it better to approach short and up a steep hill, or moderately long but flat?

Utilizes man made mounds to elevate baskets. This minimizes or imcreases effective distance which is a sneaky way to manipulate a par grade

The listed par is not a great resource for beginners. The slopes and distances at this course are one of the more extremes in the country. It is a true tournament course for the best in the world. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to play disc golf on a traditional golf course, go play blue valley long.

There are alternate shorter teeboxes, but do not be fooled beginners! Many of these will force you into an uphill battle. There is a short 9 hole course on the other side of the lake that is a better course to hone your skills.

There is a lot to say about this course. For one, the neighborhoods is not that bad, it's a massive park and people aren't just walking around on it looking to rob you or bother you. Cliff Drive is the worst by comparison.

2. Distances will prevent 150 ft throwers and out-of-shape people from not coming, but that is not a con to the course. This is the only course in KC I have played where Par actually means something

3. Has most of the same features as Water Works but does them better in my opinion. I would put this course at the top of KC courses

Baskets are in great condition, and the tees are concrete and huge. The tees also have an interesting shaping, supposed to represent the shape of the hole. 10/10

The elevation changes here are extreme, the course is definitely in the top three (along with Water Works and Swope) of hilliest courses I've played. There is also a lot of variety in elevation patterns from hole to hole. 10/10

Lots of obstacles combine with the elevation and length to make every hole challenging. I like that there is a combination of individual trees as obstacles to force shot shapes and forested areas to make large areas where your misses can't go. 9/10

There's a great variety of openness on shots. A few holes are wide open and very long, while many are more wooded. Most holes have obstacles on either the drive or the approach which is nice because you can have open drives to bomb away while not having any boring holes. 9/10

There are many ways to play several of the holes (example: should I go around or under this tree). Holes 3, 4, and 5 are great examples of this early on and it continues throughout. I like that this course makes the player think. 9/10

There are some holes that require a certain shot path, or at least heavily encourage it. This requires players to throw every shot to be successful. 8/10

Course maintenance is pretty good. The grass is mowed, every hole has benches and signs. The reason I'm taking some off is that the baskets on the back nine almost all have the wrong numbers AND flags on them, it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to fix this. 7/10

Benches and lots of shade is good. There are water fountains and bathrooms somewhat close to the first tee, but there isn't really anywhere to grab some along the way without going a little while out of the way and with how long of a course this is there really should be more water fountains. After nine isn't too bad to go back to the start, but it's still a hike. 6/10

Navigation of the holes themselves is pretty good on the front nine, there are flags on the baskets with the correct numbers. On the back nine, it's very confusing because none of the baskets have the correct numbers. tee 10 goes to basket that says 11, 16 goes to a flag that says 18. I'm really not sure about 11-14, I found four baskets and three tees. I think maybe 12 and 14 shared a tee. There was a sign that said 12, with a 14 in spraypaint. 15 and 16 were a bit tricky but I think I figured them out. There was a mystery basket that could be seen from the 15 tee, I couldn't find a tee that seemed to go for it, but I found a total of 21 baskets... This is WITH a map, so I can't imagine how frustrating it would be without one. (see update) 2/10 overall.

Navigation between holes is about the same. Pretty easy on the front nine with arrows that said next tee on the signs, but as mentioned above the back nine is tough even with the signs. 3/10

This course does not provide a challenge for all levels, You need to be at least an intermediate player if you want to do well, and even then it would still be tough. If you're a beginner don't come here unless it's to play the "junior" course. There are a few shorter tees interspersed through the long course, but they're even more confusing than the long course tees, so I don't see any point in bothering with them. 2/10

There isn't much variety in the distances. Most of the shorter holes are uphill while the even longer than long ones are downhill. There are a couple exceptions, with 2 and 11 being ONLY 500 feet, but overall every hole is pretty long. 3/10

Discs aren't the easiest to find. There are lots of blind shots with some fairly heavily forested areas. Plus the extreme hills make it very possible for discs to end up nowhere near where they land, which makes it very hard when you can't see them land anyway. 3/10

Alternate hole positions aren't great, most holes do have one, but it doesn't really change the feel of the holes. Most holes just play the same but with one extra shot (and 1 higher par). Both times I've been every hole was in the same position. 4/10

Without a doubt the most difficult course I have ever played, and most of the holes weren't even in the longer options.

Uniquely long, especially in how consistently long pretty much every hole is. I think there are about four holes that were par 3's and all the rest were 4 or more.

The first time I played here I only played the front nine and the short course because it was 108 degrees and I loved it. I came back with a map to play the whole thing but even with a map I couldn't figure out a few holes.

7/14/13 Update:
I finally figured out the navigation on this course. The problem is that there are actually two courses set up at the same time that share most of the tees and baskets. Many of the holes have two baskets on them, with one to use if play the "short" configuration (which is still longer than any course in the KC area) and the other to play the "long" configuration, which is about 11000ft. I played this course recently and it is currently set up in the long positions, but you can still play the short positions (though currently the basket for hole 14 is missing). In the future the first hole can tell you whether the course is set up to be long or short. If the first basket you see has a flag on it, it is set up short, if not and there is a flag on the basket over the hill past the playground, it is set up long.

I'm giving a 3 based on cleanliness, feel and the obvious potential of the course. It's gorgeous. Would have loved to have had a clue what was going on.

Extremely confusing to just walk up and play for first time. I didnt make it far and decided i needed to come back with help/ a map. I will be doing this and probably changing my rating accordingly.

Very cool course with nice tee pads and very very long holes. Pin maps are nice when they are there. Mowed very well for how big it is.

Very poorly marked course and very hard to find the next whole especially when the numbers change to where short and long tees are different. Not in the best area. Disc golf parking is fine but others in the park aren't. We saw multiple pit bulls wondering around, luckily the one that walked up to us was nice. It's so long you'll probably get tired from walking.

The elevation changes here are dramatic and, at times, a little tough to believe. The only courses I've played with more are in the Rockies, and even at 8000 feet elevation, they left me less worn out than Blue Valley.

I will give this course credit for being pretty unique: it's unlikely you've played a course quite like this before. The combination of length and elevation changes mean you'll really have to think out the sequence of shots (and given how out of breath you will be, you'll have time to think it out!). Baskets are often on inclines (always a plus for me). While the course isn't heavily wooded, it is far from wide open. There are only a few holes where you can grip and rip; usually you'll need to decide on your line and hit it. Failure to do so could leave you with a brutal uphill shot that is tougher than your tee shot.

The tee signs have large cut-out numbers on top so that it is easy to identify the tee from a distance. Pay attention. I made the mistake after hole 2 of walking up the hill to the tee pad only to find out it was for hole 8. You can't waste your energy here.

I like the oddly shaped tee pads, and it seemed like there was always plenty of room for a run up from virtually any direction.

The biggest con is that the course is way, way too long. I am all for having an epic hole or three, and there is something to be said for creating a hole where you have to execute four great shots to get into putting range. But you can only have so many of those before mortals will lose interest. They have begun to install alternate, shorter baskets (they are red baskets to differentiate from the regular grey positions). I played every short position, and the course was still brutal. Holes 17 and 18 left me light-headed and a little annoyed; these were holes that only Avery Jenkins would love (there is a reason he has the course record here), and not a satisfying way to finish a course

The fairways were well mowed and looked very nice. But I spent 30 minutes of my 2 hour, 30 minute round looking for discs, often in the taller grass. This really sucks the life out of you.

This course can be a little frustrating to navigate the first time, as you'll often throw your drive and still not be within sight of the hole.

I love the tee signs that are found at nearly every KC area course, but for some reason there is a different design at Blue Valley, and it's not nearly as good. They showed the pin location(s) and distances, but they were very elementary.

Finally, this place is in a rough neighborhood (you hear that a lot about various KC neighborhoods, but this one felt worse than Swope or Cliff Drive). The disc golf parking lot seemed fine, but other lots in the park seemed a little sketchy. I knew I'd need some water before playing and ended up driving around for over 20 minutes before finding a gas station. Come prepared.

I can't emphasize enough what a terrific piece of land this is for disc golf. I just feel like it was not designed as well as it could have been. I have talked to a couple local pros who almost never play here because it's too long. If Open level players find this course too much, then who exactly is the course serving? I saw only two other players there. There is a great need for shorter positions on nearly every hole. Multiple baskets are an option (not a cheap one, I know), or just use the long positions for tournaments.

I was really enjoying this course for the first 7 or 8 holes, and it is that potential that the designers should try to capture. There is a great course waiting to emerge from the peaks and valleys.

It's all been said in other comments, except that you can play this course in a couple of ways. Go all out, bombing for distance, OR play the angles, going for specific landing zones and test your ability to throw where you want. Obviously, small arms will be better suited to the latter. It makes for a great experience on a truly unique course. Seeing #1 within putting range when lying 4 is an amazing experience. Making it sometime would be even better!

There are plenty of reasons to complain about BV. There are even more reasons to love it. Keep in mind that it's not necessarily finished, though. There are plans for great things here.
Oh, about the tee pads...if you look closely, they will pretty much represent the shape of the fairway.

I've been trying to find the fairest way to review this course, I have some conflicting feelings. I did not enjoy it... exactly, but maybe I would if an evil scientist would invent a shrink ray to condense this course into something more playable for me. He could put it back after I was done or make it a little bigger for Avery Jenkins. I kept thinking on some of the holes what if it was the same layout but 450 feet instead 900 feet. How much more interesting it would be, could be the difference between an S-Curve and a big Hyzer? In defense of the course, I'm fairly new to the game, old, sort of fat, and have a weenie arm. I did throw one of my longest drives on #9 which made it worth the trip. Not every hole felt out of reach but a good portion of them did. More than a few times I threw three good shots in a row and still had another long shot and upshot left to get close enough to putt, exhausting. I also found it strange that none of the hole ever felt Lefty or Righty specific, which might be because the fairways are wide enough a small plane could use to land in pinch. It's probably more likely because of my noodle arm.
So here's where I'm at; it's a great pro-level course. I also think that's why you can have the whole course to yourself on a Saturday afternoon; very few people can throw far enough to make it fun. I didn't see anyone else, except for the creepy guys that seemed to randomly hanging around in their cars. There isn't another course in the area that will allow you to throw that many big bombs. I've played there a couple of time but I probably won't go back until I can get my technique good enough to throw close to 400 feet, which maybe a few years off if at all and even then that might not be long enough.
I wished that there were amateur or alternate tees, even thought that would be a long walk to the next tee. But really what I was wishing for is to have is some of the holes cut into half making the course into 27 baskets for casual and week armed players. I really feel that you could cut a hole like #1, #3, and #9 in half and get more out of course. And for the freaks of nature that can throw it that long, they could still play the 18 basket layout. Just my opinion though, hopefully I get strong/long enough to play there again someday because it truly is a cool course.
